"New days mean new feelings," one of Luke's aunts had once told him. She had been sitting with Luke besides her, the two sitting on the patio of a cheap motel room watching the sun go down.

He remembers that day surprisingly well. He had just turned seven, and his parents had gotten into their first major fight (at least, the first major fight Luke can remember) and had ended up leaving Luke with his aunts while they worked stuff out.

Luke had been panicking. He remembers crying and yelling and screaming, and nearly breaking down when he heard his aunt's wife mention divorce.

His aunties had then taken him out, suddenly deciding to go on an impromptu beach trip. Luke had slept most of the three hour drive, and woke up in a small motel room about a block from the shore.

It... it had been fun. They spent five days running through the sand and waves, living off of cheap junk food and pure excitement. On their last day there, his aunt (the one with the sick tattoos) had taken him out to watch the sun and "get fresh air into those tiny lungs," as she had put it.

They had a long, tiring heart-to-heart conversation together. Admittedly, he doesn't remember the majority of it. He just remembers that one quote from her, and the following sigh of, "Sometimes you just need some room to breathe. If they wake up tomorrow and they still feel the same way they do now, then they really meant what they said."

Luke had taken that to heart. Maybe not always literally- his fiesty nature tends to take over before rational thought- but there are those moments where, yes, he really does try to think his own problems out.

Except, this time, his thinking isn't getting him anywhere. All it does is make him feel whiny and overwhelmingly nostalgic.

He should really go see his aunts again. Maybe he can run off to wherever they moved to and start a new life with Ryan.

"Lukey..." Ryan's voice calls out from the bedroom, making Luke jump to his feet and jog towards his boy. "Luke?"

"Yeah? What's up, bunny?"

Ryan smiles up at him, gaze soft and subdued. "Hey. I was wondering where you went. Have you seen Bryce? Jonathan called, and he's looking for him..."

"Huh? Oh. Uh... no. I can try calling him, if that'll help any." At Ryan's nod, Luke does as he says and grabs his phone. The lock screen lights up, revealing a picture of Ryan from their first date. Ryan's shirt is wet from being splashed by a water fountain and he has a small bruise on his arm in the shape of a golf club. It's a cute picture, Ryan even posing and smiling for the camera.

The memory makes him smile as he unlocks his phone and goes to call Bryce up. The call is picked up on the fifth ring.

"Hello?" An unfamiliar voice answers, surprising Luke enough to nearly make him drop his phone. Instead of the usual bubbly, happy voice Luke is used to, he's greeted with some woman's voice. "Who is this?"

Luke quickly recovers from his moment. "Uh, Luke. Did Bryce change his number, or-"

"Hey, Bryce!" The voice calls out faintly, probably moving the phone to properly scream for Bryce. "Someone wants to talk!"
