•Chapter One•

•Elisa’s POV•

People say it takes time to get over someone. It’s been three months. For a human it might take three months, but with me being a werewolf, it takes forever.

It’s been three damn months. Three!! You would think the pain would at least get somewhat better, but it doesn’t. I wake up every morning, and most of the time I wish I wouldn’t. Every time I see him I replay that same line in my head,

“You. Are. Not. My. Mate!’’ Asher spat out venomously.

His words stung, it hit me deep.

“You cannot just reject me like that. We are MATES. As in soul mates. We were chosen to be together by fate, you just can’t deny that. We are supposed to love each other unconditionally. We are supposed to be able to understand each other like nobody else can. “

I tried not to let him see me crack. I wouldn’t let him see me so weak. I couldn’t let him see me so weak, just to give him an opportunity.

“We are supposed to be mates.” I whispered so low.

“Never, will I let you be my mate. You are nothing to me just like before. And just so you know, the Alpha’s daughter, Melissa, and I plan to mate.”

The next thing I knew, I slapped him. He swayed, but stayed there unfazed, his face emotionless.

“I hate you” I whispered, barely even heard.

I ran after that, as fast as my legs would take me. I made my way to my favorite place, the lake, with the cave built in the side. I crawled down into the cave, and shifted, not caring about my clothes. Somehow this always seemed to calm me. I let my wolf whimper in pain, from the rejection of our mate. My blonde coat by now was wet, partially from tears, the other from the water that leaked from above.

After remembering the terrible flashback, I went into my bathroom and took a cold shower. When I was out I blow dried my dark blonde hair straight then fishtail braided it to the side. I then went to pick out my outfit. I picked grey skinny jeans, and a cropped light pink cotton button down shirt, then after deciding to wear my TOMS I went down stairs for some fruit loops. Now, you may be thinking: Hey! Why is a depressed 17 year old dressing with actual style, well even though I am depressed, I just can’t go from fab to drab, and plus I like looking stylish, I kind of comforts me.

When I had safely put my fruit loops away in my tummy, I turned to go find my brother Elijah, so we could go to school. When I had found him he was talking to, of all people, Asher. I overheard them saying something about the Alpha recognition ceremony.

Oh God. He really went through with it. He really mated Melissa. I felt my wolf trying to rise to the surface. I had to get out of there. I went and ran to my brother’s car. Finding some comfort in that. I texted him that I was waiting for him by his car. He replied saying he was on his way.

When we got to school, my best friend Lilly met me.

El, Jason’s turning sixteen tonight, he’s having a party. Do you want to go together?”

She knew I was going to say yes, because I always did. I never passed up an opportunity to get drunk for one night, just to forget everything about him, and what he did to me.

Knowing that you wouldn’t pass this up, we are riding together to your house so we can get ready. I have my whole outfit in the back of my Altima.”
