Fizzy and Lottie are like my sisters or something. Like, they knew about me more than I expected. It’s kinda weird but I am a walking signal; I know, shocker. Girls are hard to read but I am just too damn obvious. After talking and walking and chilling in the park for so long, we finally decided to go back home. Lou picked us up at the park which is kind of a 45 minute drive from their house.
When we came back, I found their dad on the living room watching a football match or something while jay’s in the kitchen cooking for dinner. “good evening, sir.” I greeted the old man.
“Oh, there you are Veronica!” he stood up and shook my hand, flashing his smile. “Well, you can call me Mark.” We chit-chat a little bit about life and some stuffs I’ve been doing until Louis interrupted us with his burrito. “how many burritos did you make?” I asked while chewing up some of the food. “ten, eleven, something like that. Yeah but don’t worry, I still have some in the fridge.” I just ate one and lou gobbled up three.
“Oh Veronica, let’s go upstairs please.” He stood up, pulling me away from the living room. We went to his room and I found some stuffs in his bed.
“That’s for you.” He offered. There’s a notebook, like the journal that he have. Along with it is a set of pens, a baby blue polaroid camera and its photo papers, a 25 piece set of sharpie with different colors, and voice recorder; the ones that detectives use back then but it has some touch of today’s technology.
I gasped in excitement and in joy; finding myself buried in his chest by hugging him so tight. “Thanks, oh my god. It’s not even my birthday Lou and you barely even know me!” he hugged back and kissed the top of my head, brushing my hair after. I heard him mumble something but I don’t want to ruin this moment so I didn’t bother to ask him if he could repeat what he said. I pulled away from the hug and grabbed the polaroid. “So, there’s a paper in this already?” I asked him. “Yeah.”
I pulled Louis close to me, handling the polaroid up and pointing it at us. “Smile!” We smiled and as the polaroid started printing, I opened the journal, writing today’s date and scribbling something out.
“Okay, love. So this is what you are doing.” Louis explained to me. “What’s that for?” I asked. “Just some guide to use my gift wisely”. I sat on the floor, looking at Louis with a ‘okay, go on’ look.
“So, you are going to write the date, the events on the journal. Like a diary. And also like if you want to write something; say, a story that you’ve been thinking out of the blue. and you can put the pictures there also, like a scrapbook.” He grabbed the voice recorder and gives it to me.
“This voice recorder, well records voice of course. You can record your music there, and sync it in your laptop. Sort of like that. And if you want to record some funny conversations with me, use that. And if you want to record something that sounds amazing too, except for my voice.” He joked and chuckled lightly.
He then gives me the polaroid along with the sharpie and the photo papers. “You take pictures of people that you don’t want to forget, individually and with a group. And put their names. Or something that describes them like your doctor or something.” I looked at the photo I took with Lou and I’m amazed that it didn’t take that long to dry off. But the printing, I’m going to say it’s kind of slow.
I turned the voice recorder on and saying gibberish words, and Lou making whale noises.
“I am going to record our conversation because this is a thank you conversation.” I said. He chuckled again, closing his eyes for quite a minute, smiling and shaking his head slowly. “Please don’t forget me, Veronica.” He said sincerely. I grabbed the polaroid, taking two pictures of him and putting a caption ‘Louburrito’ on the first and ‘I like him’ on the second one. “Wow, this sharpie is cute!” I squealed. He chuckled for the millionth time and I swear to all the gods known to human kind I can listen to his miraculous chuckle every single second of my life.
We talked more about things and I recorded the whole thing until we heard Jay’s voice saying that the dinner’s ready. I haven’t really changed my outfit so I’ll probably going to get a shower after dinner.
The dinner was nice, and I literally ate a lot. Apparently, I fell in love with Jay’s another recipe, the beer battered shrimp and fish tacos. I ate three of them as if I didn’t eat a bunch of Lou’s burritos. Well guess what, I received another one of Lou’s ‘that’s why you’re heavy’ comment and cute chuckle but what the hell man, even if I like Louis I won’t stop pigging out.
Okay, I like Louis and this ‘like’ for him is very familiar like I like him for so long and this ‘like’ is giving me a dreadful headache. Like, literally a headache.
Lottie gave me a pair of pajamas and a sweatshirt and took a bath, taking an advil after. I found the family sitting comfortable on the couch watching god-knows-what on the television, curving up a weak smile on my face.
I never have a family. It’s just me and my mom, or mom and me. I never had a single dad. I never had a complete family dinner time. I never experienced BBQ weekends with my folks. I took another gulp of water and went upstairs to grab the polaroid and a sharpie, and going down to take a picture of them.
“Can I take a picture of you, guys?” I asked. Phoebe and Daisy quickly smiled and giggled while Fizzy and Lottie are fixing their hair. Lou just smiled, eating another burrito. “Are you ready, guys?”
“Smile!” I clicked the button and it started printing, and asking Phoebe and Daisy to take a picture with the two pretty little angels.
I took a lot more pictures than I expected, consuming all the photo papers that are stored in the camera.
I took a picture of Mark and Jay, Fizzy and Lottie, Phoebe and Daisy, Louis eating a burrito, Mark drinking a bottle of beer, Jay making a chocolate drink, their bedrooms, their enormous house (even if it’s dark), and other stuffs. The captions are just simple, like their names and some doodles.
