"Calvin...wheres Charles Wallace?" Meg whispered. Before he could answer, Mrs Whichs voice echoed around the forest they stood in. "He'll meet up with you later but you have to get to the other side of the wall. Go!!" Meg and Calvin looked at each other. Meg grasped his hand and they both ran, the darkness not far behind them.
Just as they were in sight of the wall, something else caught Megs eye. The tornado. It was ripping things out of the floor and throwing them. Meg suddenly had an idea.
"Calvin, the tornadoes throwing things over the wall" she yelled over the wind. "We need to hide"
Calvin looked sceptical. "Meg i dont think that'll work!"
"It will. Do you trust me?"
He smiled. "I trust you!"
They ran into the tree trunk. Looking down, meg realised they were still holding hands. She smiled and squeezed his hand as she leaned in and put her head on his chest. She felt his arm around her shoulder pull her in tight.
Suddenly, they were lifted from the ground in the stump and got catapulted over the wall.
They landed with a thud on the ground.
Climbing out of the trunk, Calvin smiled at meg. "We made it" he said. Meg smiled back.
"I think we should go wash off," she said, looking away so Calvin wouldn't see her blush. "Im covered in mud."They walked over to a nearby pond and stood either sides of it. Meg took out her bobble and left her frizzy hair out. She washed her arms, her legs and her hair, until she was fully clean again.
She looked up at Calvin and saw that, to her surprise, he was already looking at her.
"What?" She said, thinking she had chunks of mud in her hair. He shrugged. "I dont know," he admitted, "there's just something different about you from other girls." Meg rolled her eyes and looked back down at her boots. "I think you mean odd."
Calvin started walking through the shallow pond towards her. He put a hand on her chin and lifted her head up so she was looking at him. She realised there was barely space between them.
"Who says odd is a bad thing?" Calvin said. "You have no idea how incredible you are, meg. You knew exactly how to get us over this wall. Id call that amazing." Meg looked deep into his eyes. She felt something she had not felt in a long time.
Calvin pulled her towards him and kissed her like he'd never kiss her again. Meg melted into the kiss and put her arms around his neck. With every special one they shared, she felt less like there was no chance of her being the girl Calvin wanted.
Meg realised they had been there for at least 5 minutes.
"Calvin, we really need to find Charles Wallace" she said, slowly pulling away. Calvin looked slightly disappointed and Meg giggled. "Im serious we need to find him." Calvin nodded.
They started hunting for Charles Wallace and eventually found him. He ran to them screaming, "Meg! Calvin!". Meg turned and hugged him. She'd never been more sure she'd find her dad, but something didn't feel right..
