The three kept walking until they saw what looked like a small village. They walked through a gate and ended up surrounded by houses, each with a young child stood outside bouncing a ball.
But it didn't seem right. The closer Meg looked, all the kids were in some sort of trance. They weren't blinking, just staring straight forwards.
The sound of the balls bouncing made a noise that drilled into Megs brain, and evidently she wasnt the only one who felt that way. "Meg", Charles Wallace whispered. "The sound. It hurts my ears."
Meg pulled him into a hug and covered his ears. Suddenly, all the front doors opened and their mothers walked out.
As if on cue, they all stopped and said "Honey, time for tea!" And the kids all turned and walked inside followed by their mothers.
But one mother stayed behind.
"Are you kids hungry?" She asked. "We have plenty of spare food and you could come in for a bite?"
"Sure!" Calvin said, walking towards her. But Meg held him back. "Actually we've got to be going now" she said, pulling him away.
"Meg why couldn't we just eat? Im starving!" Calvin complained.
"Because we shouldn't be trusting anyone but each other. Just promise me you'll be more careful talking to strangers" Meg replied.
Calvin smiled. "I promise".
Meg grabbed his hand and smiled back.

They began walking out of the town when meg heard a strange noise behind her, like the whole town was folding into paper. She turned around and...

"Calvin, look". He turned around and behind them was a beach full of people.
A man ran over to them. "Hola amigos! You have come to see your father? I know where he is! But come and eat first you look hungry!"
They followed him to a picnic blanket full of food. Calvin and Charles Wallace quickly began stuffing their faces.
But something seemed wrong to Meg. And, evidently, to Charles Wallace, as a second later he spit out his sandwich. "This is sand!" He said, disgusted. Calvin looked confused. "Mine tastes okay. Try mine." Charles Wallace took a bite, only to spit it out again. "Its all sand!" He said.
The man chuckled. "Congratulations kid. You passed the test." Charles Wallace looked at him. And he froze. He was clearly seeing something Meg and Calvin couldn't. He walked closer to the strange man. "Charles Wallace, please come back over here." Meg whispered to him. Charles Wallace turned around and glared an evil glare at her.
"No thanks" he spat coldly, as he turned and strode along the beach with the strange man. Meg and Calvin ran after him, but he was already gone. But where??
