Mike's POV
She's asleep. As much as I hate to do it, because I know how annoying it is when someone is pestering you when you're tired (cough cough I'm looking at you Nancy cough cough), I nudge her.
"Y/N, wake up."
"No."
"Please?"
A groan escapes her mouth as she mumbles, "Why?"
"Because. Not for long, it'll just be a minute."
I'm answered with a sigh and a nod of acceptance.
Having done this so many times before, I quickly attach myself to the connecting rope. Next I move on to Y/N. I try my best not to bother her.
"Uh...can you raise your arms?" I ask awkwardly. Jesus, why am I the way that I am?
She half raises her arms, wanting more than ever to be asleep. You quickly connect her to the system of ropes, wincing at how much you say, 'sorry' or 'almost done.' Why am I actually incapable of shutting up?
"Okay, ready?" I ask. When I don't get an answer, I realize she already fell back asleep.
I chuckle at the way her messy hair sweeps over her face and pick her up bridal style. I take a deep breath and leap off into the air.
By the time it's finished, my arms are on fire, but I sure as hell won't drop her. I easily detach both of us from the ropes, carrying her somehow still sleeping figure and our bags.
I sigh as I see both of our bikes. How the hell. I get an insane idea, remembering summer camp two years ago. They taught me how to ghostride a bike. It's riding two bikes at a time, with one hand on each bike, and sitting on one of the two. I was decent at it.
So, bikes are covered, I think as I walk toward them, still carrying Y/N. I guess I'll have to ask her to hold on to me. Oh God, this is gonna be so weird. And backpacks will be fine hanging from the handlebars. So, joy.
I look down at her. "Y/N." I say softly. She looks like an angel.
Her eyes slowly open again, and she makes a small noise of question.
"You have to hold on to me to go home, okay?" I hope she doesn't realize I'm carrying her stuff, then she'll insist on doing it herself and fall asleep riding her bike.
She nods and we position ourselves to ride. The backpacks are hung around my handlebars, and somehow I start riding the two bikes. She seems too tired to notice anything.
In about a minute she falls asleep again. (A/N: SAME THOUGH) I barely manage to maintain my hold on everything, but the adrenaline rush does a great job at keeping me going. It's insanely tiring, but after about fifteen minutes we finally make it to her house.
Okay, stopping. Uh...Quickly I release my hold on Y/N's bike, return both hands to mine, and skid to a stop. Her bike clatters to the ground. Y/N still leaning on me, I search her backpack for her key I know she always has. I pull it out and somehow pick her up off my bike without simultaneously cracking our heads open.
Next I shoulder her backpack, and shove her key in her front door. My heart is pounding quickly. If her parents catch me, she's in very deep shit. I tip toe through her house. I have no clue where anything is. Praying her room is upstairs, I climb the wooden staircase, still carrying her bridal style.
There's a couple doors on the second floor. A wave of relief passes over me as I see a door labeled with her name. 'Yes' I mouth as I soundlessly turn the knob and enter.
I'm greeted with light green walls. There isn't much in her room, except a bureau, desk, closet, cork board, and bed. I finally set her down on her bed. It makes a light creak as her weight shifts onto it. My heart rate increases even more. I set her things down on her dresser and take off her shoes. She hasn't made a sound the whole time. Jesus, have you slept, ever?
As I leave, I notice a pad and pen on her desk. Quickly I give her a short explanation:
You were tired, so I brought you home. I'll lock the front door and put your bike near the garage. I can't open the garage door for it, your parents will hear, I'd really rather not be skinned alive.You need to tell your parents you were at a friend's house. All your stuff's on your dresser. Thanks for pushing me in a lake.
Merry Christmas,
Mike
As I look up from her desk, I get a glance at the pictures on her cork board. They're the pictures she took for our English project, but only the ones I got in. There's no way to hide my red cheeks. Oh well, she's asleep.
PS:Nice pictures. You look almost as fabulous as I do in one of them.
I leave her room, amazed at my luck. I didn't accidentally scrape her knee or anything, I didn't embarrass myself that much, and I didn't wake up her parents. I think to myself as I lock the front door as I said I would.
Once her bike is beside the garage door, I grab my backpack and start riding home. I turn on the headlight because now it's totally dark out. My heart slows down and I let out a huge sigh of relief. Safe.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Christmas break is probably the most amazing thing ever.
No school, no getting up before noon...do I even have to continue?
The only slight downside is you don't get to see your friends as often.
On one particularly boring day, I radio the party.
"Can anyone do something? I'm so bored." I say.
"Can't...I have a stupid dentist appointment in about ten minutes. Sorry. Maybe tomorrow." Dustin complains, cutting of his connection.
"Anyone else?" I ask hopefully, maybe hoping for one more than the others.
"I wish man. My mom is making me go to Erica's dumb dance recital." Lucas grumbles, mimicking Dustin's actions.
"Will? Y/N?" I ask.
Silence follows.
Sighing, I cut off the connection and leap off my bed. I'll have to find something else to do.
My dad grunts in response when I tell him I'm leaving. I shoulder my backpack as I roll my eyes and start heading away from my house.
I don't really know where I'm going. I just keep riding along the roads of the small town, thinking of random things.
Somehow I end up at the park. Shrugging, I secure my bike at the rack and head through the gate.
There's a playground and a track to walk through the forest, but I've been coming here forever so I'm a little sick of them both.
Because I'm here anyways, I head toward the forest trail. I walk along the rocky path, breathing in the refreshing air and gazing at the magnificent green trees.
I hum to the tunes of some of my favorite songs as I continue down the trail. I wish it was summer...I really really want to be in a pool right now.
After about an hour, I reluctantly head back home.
