Aymes had covered almost half my back when I woke the next morning. He had moved his Mossie covering up the top half of my back, over half of my neck and along my left shoulder. He was favouring the less dominant side of my body, giving me freedom to move without feeling awkward. I brushed my fingers down my neck and shoulder and smiled at the almost purr-like vibrations Ayms gave off. That was a first.
I started talking to him that morning, too.
'Hey buddy, could you keep your gorgeous growth to a minimum, and restrict yourself to my torso for now, please? I don't need my arms and legs growing green hair, where I usually try to keep it fuzz free.' I hoped into the shower and started singing a song about sunsets over treetops. I think showers were fast becoming my favourite pass times.
Drying off, I noticed that Ayms had started to change colour on my upper back. I pulled out a new backless bra that I'd collected from a Master Chief 'Jim' in supply the night before. I had to try on four different bras to find one that fit well and another that sorta worked. I now had two useless bras that I needed to get rid of. At least they were pretty in blush.
'Hey Gabby, can you pass me the shirt off my bed, please?' I called through the open bathroom door once I realised I'd forgotten to being it with me.
'Oh my goodness, he's grown so big!' She almost squealed when she came into the bathroom with my shirt.
'I know. Check out his colour change for me please? Doesn't it look kinda like a Shard priest symbol?' We'd been playing after dinner yesterday with a lucky set of cards from Jim in supply.
'Oh hahaha, that is great. He's colour accessioning. He must have loved playing last night. How amazing.'
And it was too.
I mentioned the new changes to Doc at our daily exam. More bloods were taken, more measurements were measured.
'He's growing larger, covering my less dominant side. He's colour changing, started out this morning with the Shard priest symbol, but I'm not sure what he's going for now.' I turned to Doc who had a funny look on his face.
'It looks like a medic symbol now. How fast are his colour changes?'
'That's happened in the last ten minutes. He's also vibrating when he's either happy or in agreement with me.'
'What about further changes in your physiology, any mood swings?' I held out my hands to show Doc my finger nails and looked him in the eyes.
'Ah, yes, I see. Pigment changes in the iris and finger nails. Your lips are starting to change colour as well. Anything else?'
'Yes, I noticed when we transitioned into Foldspace last night that I didn't suffer the usual disorientation. I felt dizzy for about five seconds, but had to wait for everyone else to come out of their spell before I could win my game.'
'That is fascinating. I'd like to you make notes each time we transition and describe exactly what happens to you, your body, to Ayms and what you are thinking. Then I'd like you to observe those around you and write down exactly what you see, hear and your general impressions of what others are doing when they go through transition sickness. That is fascinating.' He spent the next ten minutes writing down notes and reading material from the crystal drive I gave him.
'Alright. We're done here today. I need you to go collect your grav sled from the top deck and then you're on shift with Daila in the men's ward for the day. Off you go.'
'Sir, yes sir.' I hopped off the table, quickly switched my medical gown for my shirt uniform and left the medbay.
Since I was out and about, I decided to go past Supply to see if Jim was in.
