I spent the next few days solidifying the routine I'd begun. I stopped getting sick from the ship's food, as I stopped eating anything that had meat product in it, including milk and eggs. Ayms found the processing of my favourite bio fuel difficult and it lead to a new discussion about how he could stand being apart of my body if he didn't like meat so much. Apparently, none of the biologists or Mossie Human hybrids were able to ascertain the answers to that interesting question. Be it far from me to attempt answering one of the wonders of the universe that other's far more qualified than I failed at.
I had to give up coffee after Doc caught be drinking it again, and he said that burnberries were out too, not until my bone density levels had elevated. I was on a low dosage of something similar to bone-strong each day, and I was told would help, but until then, caffeine was out. I felt myself getting more and more grumpy, and would wake each morning with a headache. I stopped using my rebreather at night, but it didn't seem to help.
It seemed I needed more sleep than usual as well. I knew there was going to be an adjustment time while Ayms and I hybridised, but I didn't really believe it would be this uncomfortable.
'Hey Libby, aren't you on shift this morning? You're going to be late.'
'Yeah, I know. I'm getting up now.' I waved at Gabby so she'd know I was moving. I got up out of my bunk squinted at the bright lights in the bunkroom.
'Did someone replace the LEDs or something? Its really bright in here.'
'No. They are the same as they have always been. Are you doing alright, Libby?' Gabby moved closer to me and I rummaged through my locker for a clean uniform to wear.
'I'm fine, I'm fine.'
'Look, if you need me to go get Doc for you....' She had taken a step closer to me but it was too close.
'I said I'm FINE! Back off!' I looked at her, the stunned look on her face and I realised I'd just yelled at her. 'I'm sorry, OK? I didn't mean to snap.' I could feel the spike of hurt emotions coming from her. I sighed, disappointed in myself.
'OK, well, just as long as you're OK. Want me to get you a fruit salad breakfast so you don't miss out?'
'Yes, please. That sounds good.' I waved her off while I put myself through my morning ablutions. The shower was too hot or too cold. I couldn't get comfortable. I shut it off before I'd even really finished. I'd wash my hair tomorrow. I pulled on my uniform, dragged a brush through my hair, but couldn't be bothered putting it up in a regulation bun, so I just tied it back in a low ponytail. It would do.
I made it into the medibay with little time to spare.
'Libby, your breakfast.' Gabby handed me a fruit cup and left just as quickly. She was now late for her shift helping me not be late for mine. I groaned.
'Trouble with your girlfriend, Moss?' Daila was a bitch and she had been pushing my buttons a lot lately. All of the little buttons. Little buttons that made me want to shove her down the laundry shoot. I ignored her childish behaviour. Well almost ignored it. I squirted bone-strong around the edges of her locker in the staffroom so it fused shut. That was really satisfying, until I almost got caught.
'Libby, what are you doing?' Sonya was really loud today.
'I'm finishing my fruit cup. What does it look like?' I grumped, holding up my breakfast and hiding the bone-strong tube in my pocket.
'Did you just yell at me? Libby, what's going on?' Gah! Another concerned citizen.
'I'm fine, Sonya. Just running a little late this morning. No biggy.'
