The Vampire's Heart [Sequel to the witch's heart]

Chapter 10

"This tome contains magick that has been twisted, brought to a dark place." Elspeth's mother leans against the table and put her hand over her mouth.

"You mean this belongs to Gallo?" Elspeth looks at the book with wide eyes.

"I'm confused," Gregory says. 

"Around the 18th century a witch found remnants of a druid ritual to become some sort of..." Alyth searches for the right words. "A being stronger than what we are now."

"He experimented on his followers, making ungodly creatures. He killed them when they didn't work out," Elspeth continues for her mother. "Once, the ritual backfired--either by accident or from the follower turning on him--and Gallo was turned into a mindless beast who spent the next 20 years killing off and consuming every witch he could find."

"I see," Gregory says. "What happened to him? Is he still out there."

"He's the reason why I am a born witch. The families came together and the mother granted them children strong enough to defeat him. Thus began the line of born witches." Elspeth smiles. She hears her mother suck in a breath and sob quietly.

"We meant to tell you." She says into her hands. "We were supposed to tell you at your first coven ritual but so much happened, we had to put it off."

"What are you talking about?"

"Your powers were a gift, a pity gift, given by the god who made the trade for the eradication of the Gallo beast," Alyth says through clenched teeth.

"What trade?" Elspeth asks, her voice shaking.

"Your legacy is a legacy written in blood."

Hey guys! This one is really short and kinda confusing??? It'll all be explained in the next chapter. I'm pretty confident that a lot of you will figure it out beforehand but lots will be revealed in the next chapter. I have an end in mind but I am having a hard time getting there. But I know where I'm going so this will run more smoothly than it has been. Thanks for reading!
