Lacey was frightened. She looked across to the driver's seat and studied the intimidating man. His profile was attractive and his eyes were blue were actually a gentle blue for such a large man. He must be at least six three which at five four was like a giant. His jeans were tight on his massive thighs as he drove the dark sedan. His forearms flexed as he stretched his fingers. They had been driving for eight hours.
She was in a car with a stranger driving for over four hundred miles. She didn't even have her phone. Based on what he told her she wasn't safe. Still she waiver back and forth as to whether this man was to be trusted or not. Based on his badge she had to believe he was.
Her day started like any other Saturday, she was relaxing over coffee and making a list of things to do... dry cleaner, grocery for yogurt, eggs, salad, fruit, tampons, and she wasn't sure what else. Perhaps she would cook up a chicken breast for dinner. She hated that she had no plans for the evening, so binge watching might be her fate. She also needed to go to the bank and clean especially her bathroom, ugh. She decided no work as she had worked too late the night before.
Truthfully work had been worrying her, as a CPA for a large construction company, she was identifying some figures that didn't add up. She planned to discuss them with her boss on Monday morning. The only reason why she had this job with so much responsibility was because the owner was the father of her best friend, Angela. He liked to employ family and others, he could trust. That statement seemed suspicious now, as did the questionable figures. Especially given that her laptop's hard drive was now in this car and no longer in her laptop.
She had finished her cleaning including her bathroom and was just about to jump in the shower when there was a knock on her door. When she answered, she saw a tall intimidating stranger, the same man who was next to her now. He quickly identified himself as Agent Butler, FBI. Just as she was questioning his presence, her phone rang and it was her best friend Angela.
She was shocked when he grabbed her hand to see who was calling. Just as quickly, he let go and said, "Act normal. I'm not here."
Angela's voice exploded immediately as she exclaimed, "Daddy's been taken in for questioning."
"Questioning?" she asked eyeing Agent Butler.
"The Feds came to the house and took him away and now they're searching it. My mother is upset she's at my place." Angela was crying and pleaded, "Can you come over?"
Her voice was loud enough that the agent could hear everything and he shook his head, no.
"I'm not at home. I took a trip to the beach, just to get away. You know after my break up."
She was surprised how easily the lie came, but she had considered going to her family's beach house, because she had just broken up with the guy she was dating.
