The summoning

I walked into the temple that was in my city of Valeria while listening to the song of the goddess, preparing myself for what I was tasked to do. It was my choice... I knew the consequences. But I had to protect the people of Xernia. I, Yusagi Samura, am about to become a summoner.

***************************

I stumbled out of the Chamber of Prayer, weary from praying so long.

"Yusagi! You've been in there for three days, are you alright?" Zack said as he rushed to me and helped me stand steady. Zach had been with me since I was a child. He was my guardian.

"Yes," I brushed my hair back so it didn't tickle my face. "I've done it! I have.. Become a summoner." I walked out of the temple, Zack close to my heels. The towns people begged me to show them my new power. I stepped to the middle of the square and made my staff appear, then started to summon.

As I started to dance, I watched my staff. It was dark blue up to the symbol attached to the top, which looked sorta like a Celtic symbol. My clothes were the traditional clothes of a lady summoner, a long blue skirt with small flowers at the bottom and a long sleeved fancy white shirt. My black boots went well with it.

I stopped dancing and the beast I came forth from the sky. It was a large bird type animal but it looked vicious. Yet, a certain ... Gentleness came from it. I walked forward and pet it's beak, it growled softly and nuzzled my hand. Then I began to feel woozy and faint, next thing I knew I was falling.

"ROOOAAR!!" The beast cried and caught me with it's body.

"Yusagi?!" Zack kneeled at my side and picked me up. "I've told you before, three days is too long"

"I'm... Fine... Had to... Become summoner ... Must get final summon..."

Zach took me to my room and layed me down to sleep.

"I uh... Yusagi?"

"Yes?"

"I was given this by the towns storyteller... She told me to give it to you."

He handed me a letter. I opened it and began to read.

"The pilgrimages have to stop it's too dangerous! You must stop Yusagi from going she is too important. If she doesn't and she gets to the final summon, even if she defeats Venga, it will kill her!"

Zack looked at me and took the letter, reading it fast.

"What does she mean?"

"She is just worried that's all."

Zack looked worried but let it go.

We stayed the night in the town and at dawn we got up to take the ship to Acul, the next city for me to get my next summon. I couldn't shut my mind off, I could not quit thinking about that letter. I knew what getting the final summoning meant and I accepted it. Zack didn't know and I didn't think I wanted him to know. I shouldn't tell him.... Should I?
