Carissa woke up in Bentley's arms at 11 o'clock the next morning. "It's Saturday, right?" She whispered into his chest.
"Yeah," he shifted, opening his eyes. "I could do this every night."
"Me too," she buried herself deeper into him. "I have the day off, do you wanna do anything today?"
"How about staying here forever?" He offered.
"I wish," she sighed, planting a gentle kiss on his upper arm.
"How about I take you on your first official date?"
"Ooh, where to?" She asked.
"You'll see," he smiled sleepily as she got out of bed and started to get dressed.

A little less than an hour later, Carissa and Bentley were sitting in traffic entering the Coastal mountains in her silver Mercedes-Benz AMG SUV, listening to pop and light rap music on the radio.
"Seriously, where are you taking me?" Carissa wondered again.
"You'll see!"
"I'm driving, so you'd better have actually made up your mind. And this car has very bad mileage per gallon, so couldn't you have chosen the Tesla if we were going to go across the country?" She false-threatened.
"Because charging would have taken too long," he replied, sitting back as the traffic started moving again.
"I'm honestly kind of worried now," she glared at him.
*****
"We're in a parking lot. In the middle of a forest," Carissa observed as she turned off her car.
"Yup."
"Thank you, Bentley! You're the best! Only you would know exactly what I wanted!" She hugged him over the center console.
He smiled. "Your hiking boots are in the trunk."
"Wait really? You're literally a god in my world, right now." She stepped out of the car and walked around to the trunk, gasping when she saw the picnic basket.
"Well, you weren't supposed to see that yet," Bentley laughed, picking it up for her as she changed her shoes from her basic sneakers to the boots.
"So where to?" She asked, leading the way through the gravel.
"That one," he pointed to one of the signs. "I hear that very few people use it, so that should give us plenty of alone time."
"Oh please, we basically live together," she teased, but headed towards the trail he had directed anyways.
They hiked along the trail for about a mile and a half, before Carissa declared that she had some business that she needed to attend to. Leaving Bentley on the trail with the basket, Carissa proceeded through a couple of trees before finding an adequate bush. Through the nearby Joshua trees, she could see a clearing of tall grasses, which seemed perfect for their picnic.
Quickly, she ran back to the trail. "I found the perfect location for lunch!" She excitedly announced to Bentley, but he had a sullen face.
"Umm..the thing is...Carissa.." He started.
"Yeah?" She reached took one of his hands and interlaced her fingers with his.
"My...umm...grandmother had a stroke." A tear rolled out of his eye. "And I'm sorry for ruining the date, but..umm..is it alright if I go and see her?"
Carissa nodded. "I understand." She led him back the way that they had come. "I'm really sorry."
"It's not your fault," he linked his arm with hers. "I just haven't seen her since I left for New York, so even longer than since I've seen my parents." He rested his head on her shoulder. "Whom I'll probably have to see anyways." He groaned.
"Who called?" Carissa asked.
"My sister. The one who's doing med school at Stanford." He said. "My grandmother lives in San Francisco...I forgot to mention that, didn't I?"
"Maybe. I assumed she lived in LA, but I'm cool with driving you up, too, if you need."
"Thanks Carissa, you're the best."
"I know I am."
