Oysters

"The world is my oyster."

The phrase implies

That you are a pearl.

Only shimmering and beautiful

From the death of another.

Prying open the jaws of your maker

People harvest you

To sit at the throat of the rich

And sparkle under fluorescent lights,

To leave behind the cold dead

Jaws of your home,

To fulfill the selfish

Dream of shimmering spotlight.

Would you leave the world to die

Simply because you are a pearl?
