It was her.
I jumped up and down in the dark sky.
I look like a mess and i'm shivering from the cold, but it's worth it. I can finally see her again.
I tried to wipe the mascara off of my skin and held my hands behind my back. The screech of tires filled my ears and I whipped my head to see it. A red truck was parked by the sidewalk and slowly, the driver's seat window rolled down...
"Hi," Maya blushed and looked down at the road.
"Yo." I smiled at her, Suddenly I lost all of the confidence I had on the phone with her. I skipped to the other side of the car and hopped in the passenger seat.
So.. why me out of all people?" She asked.
I knew this question was going to pop up sooner or later. I turn and look at Maya's face. She looks... tired. I check my phone. It's 12:30?!?!
"It's a long story..." I stutter. I really don't want to lay this burden on her at 12 in the morning.
"Well good thing we have a long drive ahead of us." She smiled. Gosh I love her smile.
"Um... Okay it all started with me at a bar..."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"YOU WHAT?" I almost jumped out of my seat. Karen, who looked like a softhearted big ball of fluff just yelled at a random man who was harassing her! Jesus! This girl had more to her than I thought.
"Yeah.." She blushed. "I don't know that many people here and I knew you wanted to see me since the number thing and .... oh I don't know!" Karen threw her arms in the air.
"You don't have to get all ruffled up." I tried to calm her down. I don't want her to get all anxious because of me. She looks like a really, really, sweet girl.
"Ruffled up?" Karen mocked me and started to snicker...Well it's better than her being all flustered.
"Yeah! You haven't heard anyone say that before?" I said. Whenever we passed a streetlight the orange glow lit up her face and she looked like an angel. I know I should keep my eyes on the road, but it's freaking Karen! She's.... She's.........
"Who do you hang out with then?" The laughter get's louder. I look away from her. Crap... I didn't know saying this one word would cause such a big conversation.
"Hey, relax." I feel her hand on my shoulder. "I'm just joking Maya."
I could feel my face heat up even more than before. Should I.... Does she.......
"Are you single?" I blurt out loud. There is an awkward pause. I should probably feel embarrassed or a little bit stupid, but for some reason... I only feel proud of myself for saying that!
"Yea..." Karen says softly."I am. Uhh." She started to say something else, but it slowly faded into nothingness. I wonder if she isn't gay... Whoops, that would be quite the predicament.
"Sorry," I said. "I didn't think it would bother you that much."
"No! It's fine!" She protested.
"Really?" I asked. She didn't seem to be comfortable at all.
"Yea." Karen said. "I just didn't want to have another argument with..."
"I'm lesbian actually." I grinned. Maybe.... I could have one chance.
"Really?" She jumped out of her seat.
"Yep." I giggled. She looked so excited about that. It was adorable.
"That's! That's really cool..." She looked down at her seat. Bad ass Karen who yelled at a drunk dude is now cowarding right in front of my eyes.
"Eh. It's just who I am." I smiled at her. She looks like a tiny little rabbit. I just want to take her home with me and maybe snuggle? What is happening to my brain?
Soon enough, we arrived at Karen's place and had to be separated once again.
At least I got her number this time.
"Did you want to come in?" She tilted her head and examined my face. I started to heat up. It was really late... and I have work... but it's freaking Karen! I weighed my options and finally decided which choice would be the best. I hope I didn't take too long. I look up to see two blue eyes staring right back at me.
"Sure."
