Rick
Rick asked Sam to open his mouth to assess the cut.
The grey t-shirt Sam was wearing had turned red from blood soaking it. Rick had to physically restrain himself to hit Carl then and there. It would have turned bad for that asshole if Rick took his fist on him. Rick was in a position of authority and he couldn't make rash decisions.
"You will need stitches. We will have to go to the clinic. Keep your mouth open. I don't want you to choke on your blood."
Rick called Isaac and asked him to bring his car. Rick didn't want Sam to ride his Harley Davidson in this condition. Isaac came a few minutes later, looking shocked at the situation as if he didn't presume something like this could happen. Young werewolves could be brutal. Rick knew it because he was a young once and he knew how violent they could be to one another. Sam was an easy target, not because of their slight figure but because of his status as a lone wolf without a clan to protect his rights. Rick's heart ached to see a fragile little boy go through so much for doing nothing except being himself. It made him fucking furious too. Rick was bullied too at one point but not after he hit puberty, no one dared to mess with him after that.
Rick helped Sam get into the car and drove him to the nearest werewolf hospital. Unfortunately, it was the same hospital Nathan worked in.
The nurse took them in immediately, helping Sam settle on the examination table. Rick sat on the chair beside the high bed while Sam waited for the nurse to treat him.
The nurse wheeled him to another room while Rick waited patiently for him to come out. Sam came out half an hour later, a cold compress tied to his cheek.
"Are you his elder brother?" the nurse asked.
"I am his coach," Rick said, correcting her.
"Okay. He needs soft food for the next week and cold stuff to help with swelling."
Rick nodded. "Okay."
"He needs to be in observation for an hour."
"That's okay. We will stay here," Rick said.
"Rick?"
Rick froze hearing the familiar voice. He turned his head to see Natha approaching him in medical scruff.
"What are you doing here?" Nathan asked with a frown.
"One of my trainees got hurt. I had to bring him to the emergency ward."
"I see. Is he alright?"
"Yeah, he is fine now."
"It's been a long time. You look good." Nathan said, his eyes flickering down for half a second before meeting Rick's eyes again.
Weirdly Rick didn't feel the ache in his heart like he used to three years ago. The ache was lessening. And perhaps his feelings for his first love were fading.
"Thanks. How is Pam?"
"She is fine. She will deliver any day now. Rick, Listen, if you are not too busy why don't you come to my chamber, let's talk."
Rick wanted to refuse, he needed to stay with Sam but he could spare a few minutes since Sam was sleeping. Saying no to Nathan had always been a little tough for him, especially on his face.
"Okay," Rick said before following Nathan to his office and sitting on a sofa at one side of the room.
"How have you been?" Nathan asked, sitting beside Rick.
"Good. And you?"
"I am great like always," Nathan said. "I don't ever see you at the pub. Have stopped drinking or something."
