---This Is How We Fall---
-The Finale-
Y/N made her way towards Barry, kneeling by his side, making sure that he was okay. Before she felt a sharp pain in her stomach, "That hurts," she winced.
"Are you sure that you're okay?" Cisco asked worriedly.
Y/N nodded, "It's probably from all the running, that time remnant was a bitch," Y/N replied before looking for Thawne, that's when a sense of both fear and anger overtook her entire body...Thawne was no longer there, he was gone.
"No..."
"You have got to be kidding me," Cisco said as he came to the same realization as Y/N, the realization that they had lost Thawne...again.
"He can't just be gone," Barry said.
A loud crack of lightning and thunder caught all three of the hero's attention, they all turned and saw red, blue, yellow, and white lightning falling down on Central City.
Cisco stared at the sky in awe, "What the hell does that mean?" he asked.
"I think I know where Thawne is," Y/N answered, observing the sky. "He's hiding in the speed force, time found him, and now time is attacking the speed force," Y/N explained.
Barry agreed, "It's protecting itself, the speed force is releasing excess energy into the multiverse, the only way it knows how; Thawne's using it as a shield."
"Okay so how do we stop the excess energy from destroying Central City?" Cisco questioned.
"This isn't just happening on this Earth," Y/N replied. "The speed force is leaking excess energy into the multiverse, that means that all universes are experiencing this, the only difference is that we know what is causing it."
Barry had Cisco help him up to his feet, "How do we stop it?" he asked, turning to Y/N.
She turned to face him, fear prominent in her eyes, even in the rain, she opened her mouth, but couldn't find the words. "I-I don't know, you'd have to replace the depleting energy somehow, but...it's impossible."
"The impossible only takes a little bit longer to achieve," Cisco chimed in.
"However inspirational that might have sounded Cisco, it doesn't help," Y/N replied, sounding ever so slightly pessimistic.
Cisco shrugged his shoulders, "I mean come on, you guys are superheroes, don't you always have the answers?"
"Heros are just ordinary people, Cisco," Barry said.
"An ordinary person that has made themselves extraordinary, you two have superspeed. Oh come on," Cisco scoffed, "A hero is so much more than that. A hero is someone who has given their life to something bigger than themselves. A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles. A hero is no braver than an ordinary person, but they are brave five minutes longer. Someone who steps up when everyone else backs down is a hero...you two are all of the above...you two are heroes..."
"Cisco-"
"Wait," Barry said cutting off Y/N. "The speed force is draining excess energy, causing it to be unbalanced, that's how Thawne is able to hide in there...what if we balance it again?" Barry suggested.
Y/N shrugged, "It would more than likely force Thawne out of the speed force and allow time to find him, to end him, but how on Earth would we possibly balance it, how would we create enough energy to balance it?" Y/N asked.
"Running, every step we take when we run we produces energy, if I go run around in the speed force, the energy might be just enough to balance it," Barry explained.
"Barry, no. You'd be running in there blind, you have no idea what you'll see," Y/N warned.
"I have to try," he replied.
Y/N looked up at the man she loved, she couldn't stand to lose him, she quickly grabbed his arm, "I'm going with you..."
Barry shook his head, "No, Y/N, it's way too dangerous, I'm not going to lose you," he said turning and holding her in his arms.
"And I'm not going to lose you either," Y/N defended. "It's going to take two speedsters to create enough energy to balance the speed force, besides...remember our promise?"
"Always..."
"Always..."
"Wait, so you two are going to run into the speed force blind...and then just start running in hopes that it will balance the speed force and stop Thawne?" Cisco questioned.
"Yes," Y/N confirmed.
"Oh now that you say that I feel totally confident that both of my friends are going to come back alive," Cisco replied sarcastically.
"We'll come back Cisco," Barry said to his friend, "But right now I need you to go back to the lab and monitor the energy outputs from the speed force, don't leave until you are certain that we both have balanced the speed force."
Cisco nodded before the leaving the two speedsters to do their part of the plan. Barry hugged Y/N tighter in his arms, "You ready to do this?" he asked.
"No," she replied. "But isn't like we exactly have a choice in the matter...I love you."
"I love you, more than you could ever know, and I'll come back to you."
"Always..."
And with that the two speedsters raced into the speed force, each of them running as fast as they could, and as far as they could. Neither Barry nor Y/N knew where they were going, the only thing they knew is that they were creating enough energy to balance the speed force.
-------------------------------------------------------------
"They what?!?" Harry yelled as Cisco explained what happened in the Cortex. "They don't even understand the possible risks of such an idiotic plan, the possibility that this even works-"
"I know it sounds stupid, but it might have worked," Cisco said looking at the monitors.
"The energy outputs are practically nonexistent, just like they should be," Harry said in astonishment as he observed the readings on the monitor.
Little did they know, their beloved heroes wouldn't be returning anytime soon, though they had managed to save all of Central City, Earth One, and quite possibly every universe in the multiverse, they may have lost themselves in the process.
"It's over..."
