Epilogue
In the years to come, Evan did as he promised to Carl, he became the greatest general known on the Milseur continent. On his campaign, he annihilated a majority Torte's forces with the hundred soldiers under his command by using the tunnel against the Torte soldiers. In the dead of night, Evan had sent a hundred soldiers under the cover of darkness to the Torte military camp to kill as many sleeping soldiers as possible after passing through the tunnel. The guards posted at the tunnel had been killed off with arrows, and missed the chance to ring the alarm. That night, thousands of men died before Evan retreated. The bloodshed lead to confusion which Neo took advantage of to invade the Torte capital.
After his first campaign, Evan went on a second, third and forth. He swiftly rose to the ranking of general and faced each battle with his faithful battle-hardened war dog, Carl by his side. The ferocity of both man and dog was known all over the country as they fought side by side. No one knew though, Evan's strength didn't stem from the dog beside him, it stemmed from his readiness to die. He participated in countless wars and military campaigns hoping to be killed on the battlefield and laid to rest next to a cave in the Faenend forest. The faithful dog next to him wasn't enough to give him the will to live, but it gave him enough hope to stop him from searching for death himself.
Ten years later, when the name Evan Rockenshire Helensworth became known to the world, the faithful war dog, Carl passed away. In the next war, Evan was fatally wounded in the chest. His last words to the listening ears of his subordinates were, "Glory be to Carl Helensworth, Evan Rockenshire's one and only".
Evan Rockenshire Helensworth, passed away from blood loss with a peaceful, smiling expression on his face.
Despite his family's wishes to bury Evan's body in the family grave, Evan's body was laid to rest as he wished, next to the cave where someone had inscribed, 'Even in death, we are not apart' on the inner walls. He was buried with a bloodied sword inscribed with the Rockenshire and Helensworth family crest and a letter written by a Carl Helensworth, Evan's Rockenshire's deceased beloved.
Some speculated that that cave was where Carl Helensworth and Carl the war dog were laid to rest, but no one could be certain for the flesh of both had been eaten away underground. Every year, soldiers made a pilgrimage to the pay respects to the greatest general of their time, and listen to his exploits of wars. Rumours spread around that he was also the one to take down the black beast that had haunted the people for five centuries, but the man himself was six feet under, so all questions were left without answers.
Centuries later, people still talked about Evan's exploits far and wide. His grave was a protected site, and he went down in history as the world's most venerable general who did all he did for the one he loved. Carl Helensworth also went down in history as the lover of the greatest general who sacrificed his love to protect the man he held dearest. The imperial family knew Carl as the hero who saved them from the destruction of the black beast that was laid to rest next to Evan Rockenshire Helensworth. The imperial line made a promise to the Rockenshire family. The two names Rockenshire and Helensworth would forever be glorious engraved in a monument of Evan and Carl that stood twenty feet high in front of the imperial palace.
Glory be to Evan and Carl Helensworth.
