Stefan's P.O.V.

I look at Caroline then back at Dilanie.

"so you're my long lost niece huh." I say shoving my hands into my pockets. she nods and closes her locker. she looks around.

"uh I was wondering um I don't really know anybody and it's lunch so can I hang out with you guys." Dilanie asks politely. I look at Caroline and she nods happily.

"we would love for you to join us." Caroline tells her as she links arms with Dilanie. We walk outside and sit with Elena, Matt, Bonnie, Tyler and Jeremy.

"hey guys!" Caroline says in her usual perky tone as she sits down. They all wave and Dilanie looked a little shy as she sat down next to me. I look at her.

"oh yeah guys this is Dilanie... my uh my long lost niece." I finish. They all look at her with jaws dropped. She looks nervous as she gets up.

"uh I just remembered that I have to go find my other classes so I know where they are so um I'll see you guys later." she says before running inside. Caroline watches her.

"I'm gonna go check on her." she says before following her inside.

Caroline's P.O.V.

I walk into the bathroom to find Dilanie hiding in a stall. I knock and walk in.

"hey." I say softly as I sit down on the bathroom floor. Dilanie looks up and smiles slightly.

"uh hi." she replies. I look at her with complete sympathy.

"what's wrong?" I ask curious on how she's doing. she starts to cry a little and I bring her into a hug.

"I haven't been to school since my mom died. I was 7 and she was dying. she wasn't my actual mom but she was close. Everyday I went to school I had friends just like you and uncle Stefan and when they died after I was turned it broke my heart. I can't go through that again." she says crying into my sholder. I pull away just enough to see her face.

"I promise you none of us are gonna leave you." I say with a soft smile. she nods and wipes her tears. I help her stand up and we walk out of the stall to see a group of girls starring at them. I lunge forward.

"BOO!" I say as they all shriek and run out of the bathroom. Dilanie laughed and walked back to lunch with me. she smiles

at everybody and I have her sit right next to me.

"Dilanie this is Matt, Jeremy, Tyler, Bonnie, Elena and wait guys where is Jesse?" I ask then take a recount. "and Katrina?" I finish they look at me with dumb founded looks. Then Jeremy speaks up.

"well, Katie left yesterday to go to Chicago. and Jesse got detention." he says I nod and start to unpack my lunch. we have 1 and a half classes left before we could go home.

After school Dilanie and I immediately went to the Salvatore house. Stefan Tyler and Bonnie went to the library to work on a project. Elena went home to start on her home work. And Matt and Jeremy went to Tyler's house to train. Damon was drinking a bourbon when we walk in. He looks over at us. I smile and wave.

"Dilanie hey how was school." he asks walking over to us. I had to admit it was nice seeing Damon caring about someone other than himself.

"it was fine I guess I'm actually really tired so I'm gonna go take a nap." she says dropping her back pack on the ground. Damon steps infront of her and smiles.

"do you have homework?" he asks. Dilanie starts laughing.

"ha homework that's funny. this guy" she says turning to me and pointing to him. she realizes that he had a serious look on his face. she stops laughing.

"wait seriously you're making me go back there." she says criticizingly. "I thought you loved me." she says pulling the same card that I pull on my mom. he laughs put his hands on her shoulders.

"I do love you. now get to it" he says nodding towards the dining room as he let's go of her shoulders. She snatches her back pack off the floor and stomps to the dining room before ploping down on the chair. he smiles and grabs his jacket. I watch as he starts to walk out of the house. he turn to me.

"can you watch her for a little bit. I have to go talk to her roommates about having her stay here for a while so I can get to know her." he says before thanking me and closing the door. I have to admit I was really proud of Damon for stepping up to the plate and taking a swing at being a good dad instead of just sitting on the side lines watching. I walk to the dining room table as I grab my history book and start to study.
