Gabriel's POV

To be honest, I didn't know what I was going to show her. I was only showing her because she'll only keep this a secret if she trusts me. Therefore, building trust is the only way to go here.

I looked her in the eyes first, her blue eyes were inquisitive and quizzical. Almost... Calculating.

"Tell me your name first." I demanded, walking over the mirror.

"Mary." She told me. I turned around to face her, only to see that she was dead serious. I started chuckling slowly before I broke out into a full out laughing fit.

Me, the demon angel hybrid, saved a girl named Mary. Now you can't tell me that's ironic.

She looked at me as if I were insane. "Sorry, it's just funny."

"My name?" She asked dryly, glaring at me.

"Never mind, I'm Gabriel, nice to meet you." I declared, turning back to the mirror.

"Like the angel?" I saw her eyes light up in the mirror.

"Anything but." I chuckled, reaching under my shirt to rip the tape off. She's already seen them, why not show her again. It's already happened in my dream, it's bound to happen at some point. I closed my eyes in pain as the tape stuck to my feathers. Once the tape was off, I turned to her, holding my wings to my abdomen.

"Which one means more to you, a swear, a promise, or a pinky promise?" I asked her seriously.

"A promise, that's the only thing I ever abide by. That and the laws." She smiled at herself, it was kind of adorable. Still annoying though.

"Great, since this whole situation is fucked, I need you to promise me something, alright?" I said, approaching her slowly. She moved back on the bed a little and I smirked.

"Okay."

"Hands out in front of you so you can't do that bullshit I crossed my fingers thing." She put her hands on her lap and stopped moving back. I stood at the foot of my bed and sighed. "Promise me that you won't ever, ever tell anyone about anything I show you."

"I promise." She repeatedly. She looked like she was about to start laughing.

"If you're not taking this seriously, I won't show you. It's important." I told her, glaring her way.

"Fine, I promise not to tell anyone anything that you show me, happy?" She snapped, glaring back. Feisty, this was going to be one hell of a week.

"Ecstatic."

"Well, what are you-" I took off my shirt, revealing some of my abs and my wings that were wrapped around my stomach. Slowly, I unravelled them and let them be free. I rolled my shoulders and my neck, feeling oddly cramped. I didn't like being on display like this, it made me feel like a lab-rat for show.

Mary's jaw practically dropped to the floor. I don't know what she was expecting, but apparently she didn't think I was serious. She kept staring, awestruck, so I decided to break her daze.

"Okay, that's enough." I said, closing my wings and wrapping them back around.

"No, wait!" She said, getting off the bed and running over to me, her small feet padding over the carpet. She reached out a hand and I gripped her wrist before she even got close.

"Please, can I just touch them?" She pleaded, looking up at me, her blue eyes wide.

"No." I said coldly. "That's enough for today."

"So tomorrow you'll let me touch them?" She asked excitedly as I let go of her wrist. I turned to face her completely.

"Do you have any friends you can stay with?" I inquired, looking down at her 5'7" frame.

"No, I like to be alone." She shrugged, putting her hands behind her back. "You burned down my house, the least you can do is let me stay here."

My eyebrows frowned in confusion, how'd she know?

"C'mon, you're telling me you were just conveniently passing by my place at 2:00AM?" She inquired, laughing at my expression. "Did you know I was in there?"

"Of course not." I replied quickly, putting that thought to rest.

"So you admit to it then?" She asked me, smirking.

You just got played.

"Look, I'm sorry, but you can't stay here." I told her, looking away.

"Why not?"

"Because, you just can't." I had no real reason for her. Well, not one I could tell about anyway...

"But-"

"Just get out, I've shown you too much." I said, "You told me that you abided by your promises, I hope that's true."

"Are you doubting my integrity?" She demanded angrily, taking a step closer to me.

"No, I just-"

"Forget it, I'll leave. Just next time you go burning down someone's house, make sure they're not inside." She snapped, walking to my door, but pausing. "Can I please have a pair of pants."

I walked to my dresser and grabbed a pair of sweats, handing them to her. She looked the other way as she put them on and stormed out the door.

I felt bad, but I couldn't let her stay here. Showing her my wings was stupid, but it had a purpose. By doing that, I hoped that she'd think I wasn't afraid of people knowing that I had wings so she'd have no reason to tell anyone. I know that could backfire terribly, but she said she had no friends, most likely no family, so who's she going to tell?

I decided to skip school again tomorrow just incase Mary was there. Plus, I was absolutely exhausted. It seems that's as of late, I've been getting more tired. I sighed and fell back onto my bed. My wings were free, so I reached out a hand and felt them. They were softer than silk, probably because they were crafted in heaven itself.

The bed smelled like smoke, probably from Mary. It was quite chilly outside, at least -10C.

And you let her go in a t-shirt and your sweats, I've helped raise a lady-killer.

You're the Duke of hell, why do you care?

Clearly my father isn't coming after me because he's still cracking jokes. Albeit shitty ones, but he's still his demonic self. What was my mother warning me for then? Where was she anyway? She hasn't spoken to me in a while.

I fell asleep to the smell of smoke and a faint perfume, it was kind of nice,
