On top of a secluded hill in Ireland sits the luxurious Fowl Manor. This Manor has seen many marvels and endured even greater destruction throughout the generations. It's most memorable generation belongs to Artemis Fowl II. By the age of twelve, he had become the physical link between two different worlds. The one that belongs to man and the other that belongs to the Fairy People. Over the course of several years, Artemis evolved from enemy, to neutral helper, to close friends with certain fairy folk. After his latest achievement of saving both worlds once again, he decided it was time for a break. Who better to enjoy a time of rest with than Holly Short? She had been a key factor in most of his world saving schemes. Not to mention, he was mainly at fault for most of the misdeeds that occurred in her world. Perhaps now would be a decent time to make up for all of his wrong doings in her life.

"Honestly Holly, you are a definite workaholic. We have gone through an incredulous amount of danger in the several years we've been acquainted. Surely even you desire a hiatus from your career, even if only for a day." Artemis was talking on his ring communicator while he was already folding his suit outfits inside a designer luggage carrier.

Holly sighed, sounding like static through the communicator, "You know, I always hate it when you make sense. I suppose I have a few unspent vacation days available."

Artemis zipped his bag closed, quietly so Holly couldn't hear, "About how many unspent vacation days?" He asked, even though he already knew the answer. Weeks prior to already deciding to take Holly away in hopes of legitimately enjoying stress free time together, he had hacked into the LEP database to discover that Holly has never once taken a vacation in her career.

"Hmm... I think I have at least fourteen days?"

Artemis cracked a grin and rolled his eyes thinking to himself, more like forty-seven days, but I suppose fourteen will have to do. "Then it is settled. I shall await your call tomorrow once you decide where you would like to visit. My treat, of course. Until then Holly."

"Hey wait a minute there, mud boy!" Was all she could say before Artemis closed the communicator. She groaned out in frustration, "D'arvit Artemis. I am an eighty-seven-year-old elf woman, I do not need some smug sixteen," She shook her head, "I mean, nineteen-year-old know it all to tell me when I need to take it easy." She closed her communicator, but smiled at it with a sigh, "Although... I wonder how America is like this time of year."

Artemis Fowl and Captain Holly Short. Together they could do anything, which they almost already have. Both have learned to respect one another over their past experiences together.

Holly, of course, is of fairy blood. An elf to be exact. She has amazing abilities such as mesmerizing, the ability to tell others what she wants them to do, the ability to turn invisible, the gift to speak any language, and the ability to heal fatal wounds or minor injuries. Of course, she was also a kick ass police officer. One of the best underground. These skills have proven to be really useful in Artemis' schemes and not to mention saving the lives of his loved ones, as well as himself, on more than one occasion.

Being as narcissistic as he was, the Irish genius had no doubt in his mind that Holly could not resist taking time off of work, let alone enjoying a vacation on the surface. He could see it in her face every time she came up to visit him, the subtle look of happiness. He had hoped that they could actually spend time to get to know each other. They have been acquainted for nearly eight years now and Artemis realized that he only knew the Holly Short she wanted him to know.

"Are you sure you don't want me to accompany you Artemis?" Butler, Artemis' butler and caretaker, stood outside of the bedroom door, watching his charge pack away his clothing.

Artemis lifted his bag onto his bed, struggling a moment to get it off the ground, "I am sure, old friend. This is just a vacation for Holly and I. The worst that could happen is that Holly would annoy the hotel staff for additional bath soaps. The odds of us getting into any legitimate danger are absolutely miniscule, Butler."

Heaving a deep sigh, Butler nodded sadly. "It is not my place to defy your orders, Artemis. What am I supposed to do while you are away? Your parents will be dropping the twins off at a daycare in Italy while they traverse the countryside and Juliet is in New York training with her strange wrestling career."

Artemis walked over to him and placed his hand on Butler's arm, "I will only be gone for about fourteen days. Think of that time as your own personal vacation as well. You can do anything your heart desires. I've noticed that you have been eyeing the garden for some time now. I was unaware you had passions that didn't involve firearms, old friend." He smiled up at him, turning back into his room and sitting on his bed.

Butler hid his embarrassment like the professional he was, "Even an old soldier like me can appreciate the small things. Before you go, may I ask a more personal question?"

Artemis narrowed his eyes, but nodded, "Of course."

Butler cleared his throat, "Well... Are you taking just Holly away for... personal reasons?"

Artemis blinked, surprised that his bodyguard would be concerned with his choices, "Of course not Butler, she is my friend!" He realized he was becoming flustered and began breathing slowly, calming himself down, "Wouldn't you agree that after everything we have been through, that Holly deserves some time to actually enjoy living the life she had risked for my sake so many times? As a gentleman, and a wealthy one at that, I have the means and resources to provide Holly any luxuries her heart desires. Assuming I have satisfied your question, I ask that I may retire for the day. I need to book a reservation or two. I shall attend dinner at a later hour, Butler. Thank you."

Butler simply nodded. It wasn't in his nature to question his charge unless it was absolutely necessary. He closed the door and let out the slightest crack of a smile as he walked away from the door. Young Artemis is starting to grow up. I wonder if Holly will notice.
