"Y/N! Keep up or we're gonna leave you behind damnit!"

It was cold, the volume of the noise around us was to the point where it could possibly blow someone's eardrums.

There was screaming, crying. From every living thing in the way of the CCG. Elders, adults, teens, kids, babies. No ghoul was safe.

They're not having any mercy considering that other ghouls were after smaller ones as well.

"O-Onēsan, are we gonna die", I looked to my right and saw my younger brother shaking with every sob and in fear.

"No, we just have to ke-."

"Keep what little one, here...let's play a game", a man with grey hair held a gun to my brother's head.

"Save your mother, or save your brother, it's so simple, 30 seconds", he had a crazed look on his face.

Time was running out and every breath I took was a waste of time.

"I-I, no. I ca-10 seconds kid, choose or I'll blow whoever I choose brains out", my brother was silently praying. While my mother was screaming at me to choose her.

"TIMES UP!"

The gunshot was what awoke me.

It was cold. I picked my head up from the pillow and looked at the open window, the curtains so gracefully waving from the wind that was coming in.

Goosebumps ran up my legs as my bare feet touched the freezing floor. It didn't help that Elli had the entire blanket wrapped around her small body.

I closed the window, but before I did, I saw a couple investigators running after a ghoul. I shut it and closed the curtains.

I walked over to the kitchen, turning on the light that hung in the middle of the room.

The envelope sat in the middle of counter, being illuminated by the light. Being the person that I am. I placed a book on top of it not wanting to worry about it at the moment.

I looked at the clock on the wall. It read 3:26 am.

"It's too fucking early...Daddy said no cursing Onēsan", Elli was standing in the door way, the blanket dragging on the floor from being wrapped around her shoulders.

"Why are you up?"

"I didn't feel you in bed so I got up to check if you were home, it's cold", she waddled over to me and leaned on my leg.

"Imagine how cold it is without a blanket you little blanket hogger", I picked her up and she giggled.

Placing her on the counter, I grabbed a container of eye balls that Uta gave me last week.

It was quiet between us for a good couple minutes.

"...I had a dream about Mama, she was crying, saying she's sorry but she can't come back now, she said she's gone, and that she's gonna miss daddy and I", I pulled her head into my chest, caressing her hair.

"Mama misses you love, she loves you a lot too, she just had a couple problems so she left you with me, it's going to be okay."

"...when can I see mama again", she was shaking.

"...I don't know, but, Touka and I and everyone at Anteiku will take care of you, you'll never be alone, we'll all always be here for you, always", she pulled away.

"Thank you Onēsan, I love you."

"I...I care for you too kid, just keep staying strong."

She grabbed an eye ball and placed it into her mouth.

"I've never had these, they're pretty good", she smiled.

"Yeah they are, grab a few and go back to bed, it's really early and you need to sleep", I grabbed her off the counter placing her on ground.

"Are you gonna go back to sleep?"

I sighed.

"I'll try."

She nodded and waddled back to bed.

I grabbed my phone and dialed F/N's number.

It rang a few times before her tired and annoyed voice sounded through the phone's speaker.

"Dude, do you know what time it is, it's 3 fucking 30 in the morning."

"F/B what do you know about Rize?"

"Wh-you called me at three am to ask me about that bitch, I'm gonna fucking murder you next time I see you!"

"Just tell me what you know."

"Bro I don't know, go ask Itori about her, until then, goodnight."

She hung up.

'So much for being 'friends''

I met Itori last year running away from some doves. She brought me into her bar and we just began to talk. I wouldn't consider her being close to me but, I knew her enough to know how she works.

There's so much going on now. I was just supposed to take out Rei. But now I have Elli and the situation with Rize. I have to get a job, I need more information.

I put my head in my hands. I felt like a 40 year old having a crisis.

Wait, didn't...didn't Rize have a date with a dude tonight?

Is he even still alive?

I zoned in and out of reality, having flashbacks to when I met her and to the possibilities of what could've happened to her tonight.

Elli's dream added to my, not quite worry but, curiosity.

The bad feeling in my stomach is still there. Someone's gonna get hurt really bad.

Or die.
