On our way to school, Lucy and I talked all about the things we could do in the city. We have only been in the city a handful of times, with family so we never got to adventure around. It felt like a dream come true to us.

We pulled into the school parking lot as I stepped out of my 1969 Mustang with a vinyl top (not a convertible). It was my sisters, but since she got a new car, I got her old one. I still love it like a child.

We met up with our other “friends” who were doing the usual; flirting with football players. Me and Lucy actually think it is really funny. We always have huge grins when we walk over to them because they make it so obvious that they are desperate for attention.

They were talking about the game tonight, and the after party. Lucy and I, being such great actors, acted as normal as we possibly could. And our friends being the thick-headed girls they are, bought it.

The day went on as our days usually go. I went to my classes, eat lunch, go to more classes, and that’s it.

On our way back Lucy and I continued talking about our adventure to the city.

“—but we won’t have a lot of time to do all of this if the game ends at 8pm.” Lucy added on. It was true. We weren’t going to have a lot of time. If we really wanted to take a trip, we were going to need more time.

“Okay. How about we just skip the whole game and leave at 6. We will have an extra 2 ½ hours in the city. Our parents will just think we went to the game early.” I thought.

“What about the girls?” Lucy wondered. She always referred to our other friends as “the girls”. She just does. No reason.

“Screw them. They won’t even notice. They might wonder where we are on their way to the party, but at the game they will be in a trance with the football players and they will be wasted with in the first ten minutes of the party anyways.” I stated.

“True. Okay, so you want to drive? Or do you want me to drive?” She asked. We sorted all the arrangements. We were bringing her car since, but I was driving because I don’t trust her driving in a crowded city.

Lucy arrived at around 5:45 in her Black 1967 Chevy Chevelle that I loved more than my own car. I actually tried buying it from her a few times, but she wouldn’t budge.

“I can’t imagine what the city looks like at night. It must be so beautiful. All of the lights and signs, the music and atmosphere.” Lucy said as she looked dazed just thinking about it.

“I know.” I replied, imagining it myself. “Well its almost 6.” I added, taking us away from our trances.

“You know what that means?” Lucy questioned with a smile. She was just as excited as I was.

“L.A Here we come.” I whispered with a grin, loud enough for her to hear.

It might seem we were making a huge deal out of this, because we were. But you have to remember, we don’t belong in our little old town. Or at least if felt that way. For the past 10 years Lucy and I have wanted to go to the city on our own. After 5 years, we gave up the idea. We haven’t thought about it in a while. We just thought we would move there when we got older. But now it was finally time for us to see what has been waiting for us.

We got in Lucy’s car, and we drove off.

Ahead of us were the city lights.
