“FYNN ODAIR STOP ACTING LIKE A MUTT! ”
“Sorry mum, it’s fun”
“Not when you're waving your dad’s trident around”
My body shrank as I mentioned him, Fynn obviously saw my reaction. He put Finnick’s trident on the mantlepiece and went to his room.
Finnick, I missed him. Fynn and that trident was the only thing left I had of him. The Rebellion may have given a good outcome there was finally peace across all of Panem. But my heart still ached for him. Was it only five years since the second great rebellion? Five years since he held my hand. I reckon everyone would have thought I would have gone from being mad to completely mental. Somehow I haven’t. Fynn’s helped me, so has Katniss. She’s back in district thirteen, with Peeta. I gave her a photo of Fynn to put in her book she had made for the people she knew that had died in the war, including Finnick.
I missed them all.
Knock-knock, I snapped out of my trance and walked to the door. Just then, Fynn came crashing down and sprinted a head of me.
“Fynn!” I chased after him as he opened the door, how could a 5 year old be that fast?
“Hello there Fynn,” I knew that voice anywhere. It was Mrs Everdeen, Katniss’s mum.
“Hello Mrs Everdeen” I chirped while gesturing her to come inside.
She smiled and rolled her eyes,
“How many times dear, call me Carolyn. No, I won’t come in. I’m just dropping off some of your medication dear.” She held out two small blue bottles.
I shrugged, “I don’t need it”
“What? Dear you do need it, don’t be daft.” She laughed nervously and forced the two little bottles in my hands.
I shook my head and placed the bottles in the basket. She looked at me in shock, eye’s open and mouth gaping.
“No Mrs Everdeen, of all people you should understand why I need to stop taking it”
“But your not ready for such a change, I mean you’ve only been taking it for four years?”
“A couple years too long, don’t you reckon? Mrs Everdeen I’m stronger than I was, I believe in my self and I’m sure Finnick does as well. Do you?”
“Well, um it’s your life dear. If you say so...”
Then a wide smile stretched across her face, like of a child's who had just been given a bag of sweet.
“Honey, yes I do believe in you.”
She waved off and disappeared into the sandy markets along our house. The sun was setting over district four. I closed the door and held Fynn’s hand. We walked to kitchen and I prepared his favourite meal, fish and chips. That was Finnick's favourite meal too! It’s been hard without him by my side, but I needed to continue to stay strong, for Fynn’s sake. I remember a quote that finnick had mentioned during the war ‘Better not to give in to it. It takes ten times as long to put yourself together as it does to fall apart’
