He shot him, Mr Lazar shot Daddy.

My family and church have some very weird rules. Mr Lazar set all these rules. There is one rule that says that we are not allowed to help the stiffs. The stiffs are the people that don’t go to our church.

It all started the day, Daddy helped a little stiff boy. Daddy and I were walking to the park when a little boy came running up to us. He asked for help, he said his father was abusing him. The boy ran away and then he came to Daddy. Daddy asked him if he had a mother, and he said yes. Daddy told him, he would take him to his mother’s house.

As I walk to the boy’s mothers house, I held my father’s hand, I saw Mr Lazar on the other side of the street but he wasn’t happy like always, he was angry. “Daddy” I whisper “Mr Lazar looks angry” “Don’t worry about him, Claire” Daddy calmly replied.

We got to the boy’s mothers house and she was very thankful that we found him and took him to her. As Daddy and I were leaving Mr Lazar came over to us, still very angry. “Claire, don’t talk” Daddy whispered “I will do the talking.”

“Good afternoon, Mr Lazar. How are you this fine day?” Daddy asks. “Very fine, Mr Ashford, thank you for asking.” Mr Lazar replied, gritting his teeth. “Mr Ashford, I have an enquiry to make. I believe you just broke the first law of our religious community. I just witnessed you helping a stiff. What was that about?” Questioned Mr Lazar.

“I was just helping out a little boy, who was running away from his father. I helped him get to his mother’s house. I don’t think there is anything wrong with that, don’t you agree?” Daddy says calmly “I would, Mr Ashford if it were a little boy from our community. However as it was a little stiff boy, I don’t agree. You have been warned and if I see you helping a stiff again it will be the centre of the square for you.” Mr Lazar replies sternly.“Mr Ashford, don’t forget that breaking the 1st rule of our community is punishable by death. Good day” Mr Lazar turns and keeps walking. “Don’t worry, Claire, it will never happen again. I promise.”

Daddy broke that promise by helping an old stiff lady cross the road and again, Mr Lazar saw it. “I warned you Mr Ashford, and now you know what this means.” Mr Lazar said with a smile. Mr Lazar took Daddy away. Mr Lazar gave Mummy and I ten minutes to say goodbye. “Claire, be a good girl for Mummy. Don’t forget that I love you, okay?” Daddy sobbed “Okay. I love you too Daddy.” I say, starting to cry. Mr Lazar came and told Mummy and I that our time was up. Mummy took me back to the town square.

Guards bought Daddy to the centre of the square, everyone in our community was there. Once the guards had tied daddy to the pole in the centre, Mr Lazar started to speak. “Mr Ashford has done a sinful deed. He help out two stiffs. By doing that he has broken the most important rule in our community. By that he must now go to the place were all people go if they break any rules.” Mr Lazar takes the gun out of a box, then points it at Daddy and fires.

The loud bang hurts my ears as the bullet hits Daddy. Mummy grabs my into a tight hug as she cries. Then I hear Mr Lazar speak again “Goodbye Mr Ashford. May you rest now in a peaceful place with all the others that have broken the rules.”
