I'm pretty certain that we're all aware of the international Black Lives Matter movement — a campaign established by three African-American women in an attempt to spread awareness and tackle issues such as police brutality towards black citizens (specifically black males) and the systematic racial prejudice towards black people.

However, each time the powerful hashtags surges in wake of a new case, unfortunately, it attracts opposing hashtags such as #BlueLivesMatter and #AllLivesMatter which silence our voices.

The vast majority of the population misunderstand the concept of Black Lives Matter, often concluding and depicting that Black Lives Matter is something that it isn't.

Black Lives Matter isn't an attempt to single every race out neither does it mean that black people are superior to everyone else.

As I've stated above, it's an attempt to tackle issues such as systematic racial prejudice and police brutality that the black community continues to face.

This isn't to say it isn't existent within other communities, however, facts and figures from England and Wales confirmed that black people are often the victims of racial profiling.

"Black people are over 6 times more likely to be stopped and searched than White people."  Source: Gov.UK

"Black people were over 3 times more likely to be arrest than white people."  Source: Gov.UK

These facts and figures are from England and Wales which imply not only do these issues affect America, but it's also affecting black people globally, which is frightening.

Black people make up 13% of the US population yet in 2015 more than 1,000 citizens were victims of police killings — one-third of these victims were black. Again, this is frightening.

Black Lives Matter doesn't mean that black people are the only relevant beings on this planet.

In contrary to what supporters of the All Lives Matter beliefs, Black Lives Matter isn't suggesting that the only lives on this planet that should be truly valued are black beings.

By screaming All Lives Matter, you're silencing our voices. Black Lives Matter was established to alert everyone that black people are equally important as any other race.
