She was rejected before she could even cry. Born into a family that saw her skin as a flaw, Lathika grew up learning what it meant to be unwanted. While love was given freely to others, she learned to survive on silence, tears, and unanswered questions. But time changes people. Pain shapes strength. And even the grey duckling can become something beautiful. This is a coming-of-age story about colourism, self-worth, and a girl who learns that being different was never her weakness-it was her power. ✨ Sometimes, the ones denied at birth are the ones who rise the highest.

This is an attempt at a contemporary, UK based adaptation of Nina Simone's Four Women and a comment upon privilege and marginalisation. The story follows four British women of colour, four non white women across seven weeks that will prove to be fairly pivotal in their journeys of self discovery and ultimately a lesson in how we are so much easier to rule when we are divided.

Tired of her family not seeing her, Cressida bails from a family gathering to drink away her pain. There she meets a European tourist who she immediately clicks with, like she's known him forever. They agreed there'd be nothing sexual, but it seemed inevitable that it'd lead there. Cress gave her innocence to a stranger who had to leave the next day. For his part, Jasper was mourning the loss of his freedom as he faced an arranged betrothal. He wanted to get the most out of his last day of freedom and took a risk to ditch his security. The innocent Latina he met wasn't part of it, and neither was sleeping with her. He couldn't help himself, she was like the soulmate the old books spoke of even if she was human. He left, leaving her to discover her pregnancy and deal with her conservative family. Will he marry the woman his family wants? Or will the memory of his sweet innocent haunt him until he comes back? She felt his warm palm on her wrist and at once she was facing him. Without warning, his lips engulfed hers, setting her on fire just like she did him. His lips were warm and soft and she revelled in it as she shut her eyes, her body instantly warming up to the kiss. She wrapped her arms around him, marvelling at how their bodies fit perfectly together. It felt so good, like her head was rotating. Nothing else mattered. Just the two of them. This was all she needed. Someone who accepted her for her. Her flaws, her beauty, herself, hook line and sinker. She withdrew reluctantly, angry she had to stop the kiss and also afraid someone had seen them. As she stared into his eager eyes, she knew she loved him but she couldn't help thinking she was doing the wrong thing. She loved him, but it wasn't fair to his girl. She could do anything, run, apologise, but she followed her heart. She drew him back and continued the kiss. A Nigerian themed story bound to leave you yearning for the next chapter.
