That night Michael made dinner for them and had it ready for April when she came home. Tonight, she wasn’t as tired as she had been and he knew she had the weekend to recover some. Michael stayed a bit longer and helped her to finish and helped her with the girls. They really loved Michael and he loved them, she seen it and this made her happy. April felt giddy inside at that thought. Michael asked if she minded him reading Rabbit Hill to the girls and April smiled and said no of course not. She told him that would give her time to shower and then say good night to them before she too turned in with a good book.
After April showered she prepared herself into her night clothes just a t-shirt and underwear and a light robe. She couldn’t stop thinking of Michael and it sort of bothered her because she felt she was being unloyal to her beloved Bill. April still missed him so much and loved him deeply still. But Michael was making her feel things she truly had not felt in a long time and she missed the touch of a man holding her as she slept or just because. April heard the low talking to the girls of Michael reading so she silently went to their room to watch and she saw just how loving he was with them. And they loved him. Both were asking questions sleepily and were falling to sleep peacefully to his soft voice. April’s heart started to beat in her chest and it took all her strength not to succumb to it. Michael was perfect for the children. Now, she knew her choice was a good one and would tell the agency just that. Smiling she walked away and made herself and Michael some hot tea.
Michael knew she had been watching him with her girls. He had been able to sense and feel her the moment he began working her for her. His heart was that acute in love for her that he could sense her before she even said a word. This brought a soft smile to his lips. After he finished tucking the girls in and kissing their little cheeks he silently turned off otheir lights and pulled up their door. Michael headed to the kitchen where he could smell the tea brewing and was liking it very much.
Michael; You really didn’t have to do that. I would have done that for us. Smiling softly.
April: It’s really no trouble, M-Michael. I have been watching you with my girls. They adore you and I am very pleased with your work so far. I will call the agency tomorrow and tell them so. Thank you for your help with them and staying after those nights. I truly appreciate it all.
Michael; His heart skipped a beat. She called him Michael. Smiling tenderly, It really was no problem, Ms. Bradley. I-
April; April, please Michael. Call me April.smiling softly.
Michael; Oh, okay, April, well it was my pleasure. The girls are little angels and I’m really fond of them. They are great children and so bright and make you think with their inquisitive minds. Smiling and sort of chuckling with that.
April: yes they sure are. Shaking her head laughing
Michael loving her laugh, smiles. And finishes his tea. He had too. He wanted to kiss her and knew if he did too soon, it was over before it started. Well, I do need to get going. Enjoy your night. Get some welll deserved rest.
April; Thank you so much Michael. I will. Tell you wife I am sorry to keep you so late this week. I really appreciate her patience and understanding. Smiling
Michael: a deep sadness hits his eyes and April catches it before he can hide it, There is no wife April. I am single. Widowed actually. Good night. Slight smile and he turns to leave.
April; Michael, I-I’m sorry, I didn’t know. I- she bites her lip.
Michael; seeing the hurt in her eyes he almost succumbed to his own heart. He turns to her. It’s okay. Stuffing his hands in his pockets so he don’t caress her cheek. You have a wonderful night okay? Soft smile. He walks away and gets into his car, driving away.
