🎶I need a Gangsta🎶

Chromia's POV

The months had passed swiftly for the boot camp but the recruits were still in training. I believe the Captain chose to take a different approach with the recruiting process. He actually flipped the process by having the boot camp first and rumor has it this was a strategy he was 'testing'.

It was Saturday and I was having dinner with Brian as usual but something seemed off. He was staring at mid air for most of our date and he often drummed the table without notice.

Did I do something wrong?

He was distant, everything I said registered in his brain slowly. That is, moments after I had spoken he would say 'huh' as though he had heard me speaking French. It was offensive as opposed to upsetting.

"You want to talk about it?" I asked as I reached for his hand across the table and gave it a light squeeze. His eyes fell on our hands and he relaxed, giving my hand a light squeeze also.

"Have you ever been in love Mia? Not infatuated with someone but actually love someone, so much that you would give your life for them?" He asked and I smiled, I knew something was bothering him.

"You aren't feeling this relationship huh?" I asked as I leaned back, my hands moving along my biceps. His eyes widened, apparently he thought I was offended but I wasn't, I could tell because I didn't feel this relationship either.

"No Mia you are great at everything, any man would be lucky to have you...but I..." he then trailed off as he reached over and threw his jacket over my shoulders. I appreciated the slight warmth, his dark eyes searching for the rest of his intended confession.

"But?" I asked and his gaze fell to the floor. I squeezed his hand, the fact that there was a but it was only fair that he told me what that 'but' was.

"You can tell me, what's bothering you?" I asked as my optic (eyes) searched his dark eyes, his hand feeling warm beneath my palm.

"Can we go somewhere private, these people won't quit staring at us" he stated as he got up, placing money I was sure left more than enough change on the table. Didn't he expect them to stare at him?

He reached a hand towards me, his hands giving my shoulder a warm squeeze the moment I was on my feet.

"Thank you" I whispered as we made our way outdoors, Brian holding the door for me.

"On three we are going to ditch my driver...one, two..." and at the sound of three we were off, running into an alley hopping wooden boxes in the process.

"Is this something you always do?" I asked as he held my hand while we climbed the stairs of an apartment to make it to the top of the building.

"I do this when I want to get away from the world...hold on, let me put this thing on silent" He replied as he pulled me over to join him, his hands lingering on my hips for a matter of minutes.

When he adjusted his cell as intended I chuckled, so maybe being rich had its flaws. I had never laughed so hard in my life and when I stared into his eyes I decided to ask the question.

"Get away from what? You have all you could ever want" I stated as I pulled the pins from my hair and allowed the night air to take control.

"I really wished I had everything Mia" he stated as our eyes met, blue to blue.

"Brian, I really haven't been fair, physically I'm here with you but emotionally I'm with someone else" I confessed and he held my hands. On his face was an expression of slight relief.

"Me too Mia...how did you get the words out, I've been trying to tell you the very same thing" he stated as he placed his forehead against mine. I laughed, now the air wasn't tense as we both felt the same way.

"Thank god, I thought we would be enemies after this" I confessed and he actually laughed at me.

"I've been friends with all my exes, no matter what a woman has done to me I will never walk past her as though she's nothing or speak ill of our relationship. I'm just that sort of guy so we wouldn't be enemies" he told me and I smiled, that was really sweet.

Why weren't all guys like that?

"What's she like?" I asked as I leaned on his shoulder, my hand in his as a bit of fresh air moved over our bodies.

"I had only met her once. She was supposed to be my one night bliss in a foreign country. I don't know how but when you meet that person, you just know that your search ends there" He began and I was saddened.

My aim is to return to that country and search under every rock until I find her. I have no idea of my words when I broke her heart but I am willing to try and find her again. This has to be the dumbest thing you ever heard" he stated.

"Actually it's not, the universe has a weird way of revealing things" I told him and he nodded in agreement.

"Oddly it does. She was a sex worker but for some reason she looked as though she did not belong there, almost as though she was doing it as a last resort. When given the choice I chose her and I was too intoxicated to even stop her from believing she owed me. She maybe even thinks I just fucked her and left her more than her required payment out of guilt" he confessed.

"Hey, you say she's the love of your life right? Pursue her, make things right, I have a feeling she'll understand" I told him and he smiled.

"And your story?" He asked and I scoffed. I had no idea if it was a love or horror story at this point.

"Mine ain't as romantic as yours" I told him and he stroked my cheek.

"Still want to hear it" he told me and I sighed.

"I fell in love with my trainer, at first I thought the guy hated my guts but momentarily on camp small things led to big things. Eventually we decided to date, no strings attached being that I had lost my husband and he didn't do love" I told him, my eyes slightly moist.

"Sounds like a love story to me" he pointed out and I gave him a deadpanned look.

"He was the one who killed my husband, my husband was a soldier" I told him and Brian's eyes widened.

"Oh god...I'm so sorry" he told me as he gently squeezed my hand.

"I'm over that...it was hard and painful but I had to get over it, he was already gone. I still love the bastard and deep down all I want to do is be with him again" I told Brian who seemed to understand my feelings.

"Then be with him, I believe people meet for a reason Mia. Sometimes the heart wants what the heart wants even that which is bad for it" he told me and I smiled.

"So I guess here goes our history" I stated and he chuckled.

"I guess here goes our history, Miss Emilio. You were such an amazing cook, are you sure I cannot visit from time to time?" he remarked and I elbowed him as we stared up at the stars.
