He couldn't remember the last time he'd spoken to another human being this much.

Mae was so unexpected. She wasn't at all what he thought she'd be. She could really talk. And more importantly, she could really listen.

Every time he would reveal something about himself, no matter how insignificant, she would always snap to attention. She'd listen to him like a child discovering something wonderful and awing for the first time. It made his heart squeeze.

" So, do you like bow ties better or just normal ties?"

" Normal ties?"

" Make up your mind, you sound a bit confused."

" I like normal ties for sure,"  he stated.

" Me too."

She went into silence, probably trying to think up new questions. Her question made him think about her wearing ties. Then it made him think about her wearing nothing but a tie.

" Michael."

He jumped. " Yes?"

" Are you okay? You seemed a bit distracted by thoughts. Wouldn't want to crash the car."

Just looking at her made him squirm in his seat in want. God, she was gorgeous.

" I'm fine. I won't crash us. Don't worry, I've had lots of practice with driving for long amounts of time."

" Good. But I still wished you'd let me drive for a little while. It can't be healthy for you to drive 12 hours straight." she said with a concerned frown.

Not this again. She was very insistent on the matter and he didn't know how to respond. She was concerned for him. It was odd.

" I'm getting paid a good sum to drive you and look after you. This isn't some fucking road trip." he snapped suddenly.

She went silent for a really long time.

Shit shit shit. Fuck. He was such a dick. He had upset her.

" I know, I'm sorry. I won't bring it up again," she said really quietly.

Then she went back to silence and didn't attempt to ask any more of her questions.

They morphed into silence for the rest of the evening.

It's only when they arrived and he opened the car door for her did he get to hear her voice.

" Thanks," she said politely, smiling in a detached manner.

She wouldn't talk to him anymore but she wasn't avoiding him either. He was going crazy wanting to fix it but not knowing how.
