5. Rhyming Story
Here's a challenge! This is a funny rhyming story full of Muddles and Mayhem. It has room for lots of names. Read it as it is - OR – Why not change the names? Use the ones from your class at school or your brownie group? Just make sure to include your teachers and leaders – after all, they're the ones who are ALWAYS in trouble!
THE DAY THE SUN EXPLODED!
Charlie, Ruby, Grace and Oliver
Were choosing a book...
The day the sun exploded
Claudia, Ben, George and Libby-Jean
Coloured ping-pong balls
Shades of purple and green...
The day the sun exploded
While Alice, and James whispered and giggled
Hiding their heads
Pretending to draw
Convinced no one saw...
The day the sun exploded
Cotton wool was fluffed, by Sofia and Ethan
While Lei and Ebony got down to the job
As they traced and coloured
Stayed in the lines
Using blues and red
And not a word was said...
The day the sun exploded.
Ms Jordan cut cord with very sharp scissors
While Angel poured glue and Noah tore paper
Matthew walked carefully carrying the tray
That held sticky-on sparkles, glitter and spray
To spread on the moon
Planets and star
Beside him was William with sticks in a jar...
The day the sun exploded.
Charlie and Libby painted dark cosmic skies
As Zac poured red for the space monster's eye,
A mountain was built from boxes and sand
By Elliot, Ollie - and Harry gave a hand
Finding the cloth
To cover the mound
Adding brown streaks
So it looked like the ground...
The day the sun exploded.
Ms Crossley strung beads onto silvery thread
The long comet's tail pink green and red,
Whilst with the 'sun' balloon held tight in her fist
Ms Jordan stretched to reach for the dish
That held the tape
She'd need to attach
The cord to the stick
And then to the back
Of the mobile –
That hung from the ceiling...
The day the sun exploded.
But then...
The yellow balloon slipped out of her hand
Rose up to the ceiling and with a humungous BANG
Exploded!
Haydon jumped; ping pongs flew into the air
Some landed in Erin and William's hair.
Ms Crossley shrieked–
Beads scattered and rolled
Matthew skidded
Losing his hold
The tray flew skyward
Knocked Euan to the mound
Scattering boxes all over the ground
Crash went the painting as George took fright
It fell onto Brooke
And oh what a sight!
Black paint splattered Libby
Cotton-wool 'fluff' took flight
Mixing with sparkles under glittering light,
It was Sofia who sneezed
Sending glue spraying out
Hitting Ethan who gave a shout,
He jumped to his feet
Knocked William's arm
Jar squelched into paint
Zac squealed in alarm
As red and blue began to ooze
Down his leg and into his shoes!
'Ooh help!' yelled Miss Crossley
As the bead box tore
Sending her skating across the floor
Right into Ms Jordan,
They swayed together, a bit like a dance
Collapsed in a heap...
And before either had a chance
The classroom door opened...!!!
In walked the Headmistress...
And would someone please explain?
'IT'S THE DAY THE SUN EXPLODED MISS!'
Came the VERY loud refrain....
