"Sardines, canned milk, tuna, corn...."Sarah checked off her grocery list. Her basket was full of canned items, almost tipping over the sides. Her silhettoes clacked noisily against the worn out tiles, causing echoes to vibrate in the dead silence of the shop. Of course all of this would have been completely normal if it wasn't for the fact that the shop had no one else in it, was completely rundown and had no lights on. The only way she could have seen what she was picking up was from the sun rays shining through the broken windows.
Blood smeared the walls like a deep red paint carelessly painted on a blank sheet of page. The smell of burning flesh still lingered in the air. Sarah however, seemed oblivious to her gloomy surroundings. She merely ranted on about the list she was holding. "Ahh no beans. I'll check another store later."She immediately turned her cart around and began to head out the door, passing by a register that was covered in a thick layer of dust and blood stains. Once again the girl seemed to not notice it. Sarah took out a phone from her jeans and placed it to her ears.
"Hmmm yea I'm ready. No beans but I'll check for them later. So you can come now." She spoke as she walked. Indistinctly, a another female voice can be heard from the other end. As Sarah talked she played with the handle of a metal object gleaming from inside the cart.
She was about to hang up when a loud groan echoed right outside the shop. Sarah stopped moving and said calmly into the phone "And you better hurry. A few friends are joining me and I don't need their filthy slime all over me." And then she hung up.
The source of where the groan came from was disgusting. Absolutely revolting and sickening to look at. It was at least 8-10 of them heading towards the shop entrance. They were humans...no wait that couldn't possibly be. Sunken red eyes were fixed on Sarah . Their skin was pale with a blue-ish hue and was covered in many throbbing purple blisters. Green and purple veins were prodding of of their skin, as though trying to escape. They seemed unstable on their feet yet their destination seemed quite clear to them . They were all heading precisely were Sarah was standing.
Sarah sighed audibly as she hoisted the metal bat, whose handle she was formaly playing with, out of the many cans of food. She walked forward to the approaching creatures.
"Umm hey guys. Long time no see. But I don't have time to chat with you. Yea, and you see, your currently in my way so would you please, please get out of the way."
She said looking down at the heavy bat and running a finger down it. When the Crawlers appeared to not hear her she looked up from her bat with raised eyebrows. The Crawlers were only a few feet away.
"Well it's your funeral . "
She muttered shrugging.
Suddenly, with a flash of silver the nearest Crawler went down, his shoulder removed from the rest of his body. Blood splattered the pavement as Sarah hit another with an almighty blow to the head, enjoying the crunching of the impact. One of the ugly creatures suddenly grabbed Sarah from behind in a neck hold.
Sarah saved a moment to say a few colorful words before she just rammed end her bat into one of eyes of the creature. Howling in pain, it released her and Sarah grasped the chance to grab something out of her heals.
She aimed the black gun at another Crawler and pulled the trigger. Instead of a bullet going through the creature, the creature exploded in what seemed to be blue flames. She lunged at another and shoved the gun at the creatures head as she to whacked another cross the head with her bat. Both Crawlers went down and Sarah ran to another.
Suddenly a Crawler was flung into the air from the road. It was not originally part of the 10 Sarah was fighting. An unusual clean black car pulled up behind the scene a second later.. It looked very odd against the broken down building, dead trees and the dusty roads.
