Lights come up on a mostly empty stage, with just a desk, chair and a girl. Girl has book and pen and is writing in the book.
Adira - Dear diary,
Today is my 18th birthday. I have come of age in our standards. I wonder what this next year will hold, there is so much going on. Mother is preparing for a visit from our neighboring country. I will be in a meeting with her soon, and she will go on and on about how "If those chauvinistic men think that they will get a treaty with us, it will be the last thing they do!" I try to remind her that the ambassador will be a woman, but she does not appreciate that fact at all.
My mom has always been strong headed. When she heard that my father had been injured on the front lines, she had gone as fast as she could to save him. She got there in time to save him, but not all of him. You see, after he came back, he could not speak, he was dumb. But my mother returned from the experience unharmed in any way. She is now our ruler.
That is my family now, my Father and my Mother. I used to have a brother I was very close to, but he vanished. I don't know where he went to, but Mother told me he had died. Something doesn't seem right about that story, I never found his grave, but Mother has never lied to me in the past, so I'm sure that he is alright, although dead. Part of me is glad. I wouldn't be able to stand it if he was a pawn in my mother's court. Even though us females are better at ruling, I'm not sure it's right for the guys to be pawns. Oh well.
Guard of stage knocks and calls: Your majesty, the Queen requests your presence in the throne room.
Adira: Looks up from book Coming! Back to writing Well, Mother has requested me, but if i know her, it is not a request but a demand. For now, so long diary. Knock again I'll talk to you soon.
Exits stage left. Short black out. Desk is changed out for a new one/covered so it looks different. Boy sits at desk with open book and pen. Is writing. (or can be monologue with book and pen in hand) opposite side of stage.

Vincent - Day 30 of the fifth month of the year Amrithro
Well, a new day begins. And so does the pressures, meetings, and planning that is required of a prince. How fun. Everyone is very excited about the new peace treaty that is going to be negotiated. I wish i had the same enthusiasm. Knowing the queen, it won't be pretty, even if the ambassador is a woman instead of me. Looks up and slams down pen. Stands and starts pacing. Stupid journal! I wouldn't even be writing in it if the king hadn't told me too. I don't want to go back there, to face her again. Oh well, I have no choice. If my fiancé is going as the ambassador, so am I. I just hope she doesn't recognize me.
I better go check on her, she's worried sick about Marcel. He's on some sort of mission into the other kingdom. I just hope he doesn't do anything to my sister. I hope mother hasn't done anything to her.
