"Well Ashton, I suggest you stay there and let the bleeding stop. Can I get you anything?" I stepped back and put my hands on my hips and examined my work. He face was much cleaner, and I could actually see his true skin color, not one masked by the blood.

"Some water maybe?" He said, on the verge of sounding like Squidward Tentacles. I nodded and scurried off to the kitchen. As I was pour a large glass of ice water, I could hear him grumbling to himself. I suppressed my giggles, but as I got closer I heard him sniffling, as if he was crying. I furrowed my eyebrows but shook it off, not wanting to be rude. I handed him his glass, and he drained the cup.

I stood in front of him to examine his nose. It seemed to have stopped bleeding, which it had, I found, as I took the toilet paper out of his nostril. I quickly washed my hands, and lead him into the actual dining area. I stuck my hands in my back pockets and rocked on my feet, unsure of what to do.

"Well, uh, I hate to do this to you, but we're about to close, so..." I drifted off after finding my words. He awkwardly ruffled his mop of hair before replying.

"It's fine," He turned to walk out the door, but turning around and said, "Thank you, for helping me out. Really." He threw his hood back up and pull the door open before heading out.

-

"Well damn Erin, if you see him again, get his number for me."

"What is it with you that needs to go after every guy you see?" I laughed as my friend questioned me about my encounter with Ashton last night.

"Dude, if he was really as bad as you said he was, he had to have done something to make him like that. Bad boys are hot," I rolled my eyes at Kristen, although I was thinking the same thing. I had asked myself all night about what he did to have that bloody, bruised, nose. I cursed myself for not asking, although it was polite of me to have not.

It was midway through my school day, and it was still raining, thankfully. We chose to sit outside for our lunch break today, because I had insisted on getting pictures of Kristen out in the rain. I was laying on the bench, letting the cool wind blow over my body, flapping my skirt up. I scrambled to push it back down, not because I was embarrassed, but rather I was afraid of getting dress coded by our assistant director.

The bell rang signaling for us to go to our period five class. Kristen and I went our separate ways, her to study skills, and me to literature. Luckily, I didn't have to go very far because Ms. Herman's classroom was just a corridor away. I swung the door open and found my seat as the bell rang. I situated myself as Ms. Herman went to take attendance. When she was done, she called girl named Victoria up to take It to the front office. Just as Victoria opened the door, Jason Moore walked in with an annoyed look on his face, like it truly pained him to be there.

"Glad you could join us," Ms. Herman said, taking the attendance sheet back from Victoria. He rolled his eyes before plopping down in his desk next to me.

"Looking good, Rogers," he nodded his head towards me. I groaned in disgust before turning my attention to Ms. Herman.

"Alright class, today we will be starting out new unit, which means starting a new book," She walked around the class carrying many copies of a blue book, handing them out to us. "We will be reading 'The Great Gatsby' by F. Scott Fitzgerald."

Most of the class moaned and whined, but I was actually quite excited for it. It was a book I had wanted to read for so long, but I always put it off. Now I actually had to read it.

"For this book, I have decided to do something different. I will assign you partners," this produced more moans and groans, "and you will meet up with your partners every week to discuss the readings for that week. Capiche?" We all nodded our heads and mumbled the word back.

She then went down the rows of desk and paired everyone with the person across from them. I swore under my breath, because if that was her way of pairing us up, I would be with-

"Jason and Erin." Jason gave me a smirk of success, because he knew how much he annoyed me. She finished pairing everyone up, and I was pleased to see that I wasn't the only one unhappy with my pair. Ms. Herman hurried back to her desk, and passed out the unit syllabus, filled with tests and due dates. I let out a long sigh, hoping the day would not get worse.
