Chapter 3
The next day dad got up early and made breakfast, which was a little weird. I think he was putting on a show. I knew he was because the new next door neighbors were here.
I pulled my pj's closer and wrapped my arms around myself. I had to hold it together and be nice and proper in front of them. If I don't then well I'm done for.
I trudged in the kitchen and to my surprise there was a huge glass table in the middle of the kitchen. I wondered where that come from, it wasn't here last night. I'm starting to wonder about this whole ordeal.
First with the huge house, then this glass table and then the pool out back. I just didn't know what dad had gotten himself into. Not that I minded it any, but I just wondered.
Wait one second, I wondered. WHAT IF DAD HADN'T LOST HIS JOB AND HE JUST GOT TRANSFERRED HERE? WHAT IF HE DID LOOSE HIS JOB AND GOT CAUGHT UP IN A DRUG DEAL BUSINESS? OH DEAR LORD, PLEASE HELP ME!!
I sighed and composed myself before I went inside the kitchen. I prepared myself for what was going to happen. I tried my best to be polite.
The new next door neighbors offered to take me to school with their handsome son named Brayden. He was really handsome and had a very nice body. His clothes were tight fitted so you could see his abs, actually you could count his abs.
Brayden's eyes were like a dark grey cloud and his hair was light brown. His smile was breath-taking. I mentally shook myself from day-dreaming about this boy.
I said my hi's and goodbyes before they left to get ready and if you're wondering, dad said I could even go with them. Something was off about him. I couldn't tell you what exactly but he seemed to be his normal self.....maybe.
I didn't want to leave David alone with him but mom actually had already taken him to his new school. Why didn't they wake me up? Hmph. Well then.
As I got ready dad called me downstairs, UH-OH! I gulped and hurried and put my dark blue jeans on with my dark red hoodie.
I ran down stairs as fast as I could with out falling flat on my face, by the time I had gotten downstairs him and mom were sitting at the table eating.
"Yes, sir?" I said.
"When this new boy picks you up, don't you dare tell him about how we live, do you understand? My new job has required that I keep a down-low on my used to be life. It's required a change." He said, as his eyes bored a hole in to my brain.
I nodded and said "Okay, sir. I won't say a word to him."
"You are free to go." Dad said, dismissively.
I ran back upstairs to finish getting ready. Just as I got my new school stuff ready I heard the door bell ring.
I heard Mom get the door and I ran downstairs. I didn't want to be late for school.
The car ride to school wasn't that bad. It seemed like he wanted to get to know me, but he was mysterious, well kind of.
He even asked me why we had moved but I didn't know what to say so I just looked out the window and in the window I seen his face turn hard.
The first half of my new school day wasn't that bad. Except in between my 3rd and 4th classes this really rude girl named Carmen and her two girlfriends pushed me up against the locker and started to threaten me to stay away from Brayden because that was her boyfriend.
"Listen here new girl, I better not see you with him again or I will make your life a living hell." she threatened me and I just shook my head.
I seen him in the back with his arms crossed, his expression was hard like he was really pissed off at something. I gulped and just looked at him, finally Carmen got really mad and pushed me over and spit on my face.
I was so shocked and scared because this is what happened to me at home.
I wondered why Brayden wasn't doing anything to help me. His face turned red and came in front of Carmen before she could punch me in the face.
I was so shaken up that I had tears leaking down my face.
"Carmen you need to leave her alone. You and me are through and we have been for a very long time, now. You need to get that through your ugly head." He said furiously.
"B-B-But baby, you know that you still love me just like I still love you." she whined.
Brayden helped me and as we started to walk away one of Carmen's friends stuck her foot out but Brayden pushed her away and glared at her.
We went outside and he sat me down on the steps as I had tears leaking down my face.
"I wish I could be stronger, but I get so scared. It's like being at home with him." I said.
OH NO! What have I said? What if HE finds out?
"DO WHAT?!" He exclaimed.
"What?" I pretended to play dumb. I glanced sideways at Brayden and he was biting his lip and tapping his hands on his knee.
"Please don't tell anyone what I just said, okay? Dad really will kill me if he found out. I'm going against his rules right now." I mumbled.
He just nodded and wouldn't look at me.
On the ride home he still wouldn't look or talk to me. I wondered what I done wrong. Before we got on the road to get to my house I opened my mouth but nothing came out.
I then tried again and I said "What have I done to make you mad at me?" I asked but I was suddenly nervous about his answer.
He sighed and pulled over and turned in his seat. He just looked at me like he could see what I've been through so I just looked out the window.
"I'm not mad at you, but if your own father beats you, you need help. Why havent you found any?" he asked.
I didn't answer my hands were shaking and my palms were starting to get sweaty.
He cleared his throat and that made me look at him.
I gulped as my gaze broke from the grey clouds and looked at Brayden's eyes. I lowered my gaze and he touched my face lifting my head so I could meet his gaze once more.
"You don't have to be scared of me. I won't hurt you ever. Even though I just met you I want to protect you. I could tell he was faking it this morning. Your father seems like a real jerk." Brayden said.
"Don't let him hear you say that." I replied.
"I think I can hold my own." He responded.
He just nodded but kept his hand on mine. When we pulled up he let go and he made a weird comment to me.
"I'll see you later." as he smiled his beautiful smile at me.
