Hoseok and Taehyung stood frozen at my door. They didn't move, didn't say anything, didn't even breath I'm afraid they'll die from lack of O². I opened my mouth but Hoseok beat me to it.
No, just talking. He screamed at me, actually.
"WHAT IS THAT PERSON DOING HERE???!!!"
And cue Taehyung.
"AND WHY IS HE EATING PANCAKES FROM YOUR HAND??!!"
My friends, ladies and gentlemen.
Jungkook and I practically rolled our eyes at the same time and when we caught ourselves doing it, we chuckled. Hoseok and Taehyung glared at us as if we had killed puppies he found in his stable a few weeks ago.
"They have an inside joke. Kim Naomi has an inside joke with Mayor Jeon's son." Taehyung slid down to the floor, looking defeated. Hoseok sighed into his hands.
"I cannot believe it. This is untrue..."
"Don't be such drama queens. He visited me because he knew I got sick. Do you want to enter or do I have to call Namjoon to drag you guys out?"
"We're in." They both stepped inside at the same time, and their shoulders got wedged at the door frame. Jungkook almost burst the pancake he currently chewing, but I'm not so lucky.
My pancakes rain down on my blanket in a chunky splatters and all three of them blanched. Jungkook pushed the two out of his way and they ran down the stairs.
"NAOMI PUKED ON HER BED~~~!" They chorused as they landed on the first floor.
Oh my... I buried my face in my hands.
"Naomi!" My door almost flew off its hinges when Namjoon slammed it open. Seokjin and Yoongi is also behind, peeking from behind my brother at me.
"Why? What happened? Is this sweets? Didn't I tell you you cannot have it? Are you okay? Still nauseous? Do you want some painkillers?" He wiped at my mouth, pulled the blanket into a bundle and deposited it on the floor in mere seconds, I didn't realise when he picked me up and trudged downstairs.
I looked around and grasped his shoulder. "Namjoon, I'm fine. Those two idiots made me choke on my food, that's all." I pointed at Tae and Hoseok and they looked ready to argue the case. One look from Yoongi and the case closed.
"Oh, really?" He sighed and laid me down on the couch. "I'm just afraid... Do you want something? You didn't eat much when I fed you this morning." He gave a fleeting glare at the trio sitting opposite of me, and they gulped. "And they brought you sweets, no doubt."
Jungkook, Taehyung and Hoseok tried to argue the case but when Seokjin opened the plastic bags the two brought and Yoongi took out the pancake from the cardboard takeover, they silenced. The case is already lost to them.
Namjoon sighed. "I thought you guys were better than this..."
The blamed trio hung their head in shame. Yoongi and Seokjin stood at the side of my couch, glaring down at them like some bad-ass cops in those crime fighting movies.
And why is everything so court-related today?
"Don't be such a mood damper, Namjoon. I'm fine, and that's all that matters to you, right?" My hand found his and I twined our fingers together, smiling up at him. "You said something about eating? Just preheat the lasagnas in the fridge, I would love to have it."
Setting up the table became another problem. Hoseok and Taehyung fought over who's going to sit next to Jungkook. A couple trays of lasagnas almost got bulldozed by them when Yoongi got out of the toilet and claimed the seat.
"Hyung..." They chorused with tears glistening in their eyes. Jungkook looked at Yoongi and the elder shrugged. He then gave the two of them a sit-down-now-or-else look.
Taehyung and Hoseok almost sat on each other. I heard it from Seokjin that Yoongi's else is not something to be put lightly.
The lunch was, surprisingly, loads of fun. Namjoon fed me as the others chatted around the table. Hoseok and Taehyung's puns would always got rejected by Yoongi's sadistic retorts and they would wail in defeat. Even Jungkook seemed to be enjoying himself.
Out of the blue, Father walked into the kitchen and all chattering stopped. They had their eyes on him as my father assess the situation.
"Sorry for not giving you a heads up, Father." Namjoon scratched his head in shame. "Naomi fell on the herb garden this morning and I forbids her from coming to school. The others are here to have a look at her."
Again with that lie. Namjoon is a brat with balloon head that I would love to cross a needle across it, but he is as in never lie. So I kept my mouth shut and stared at Father.
"I see..." Father cocked his head and dipped it at Jungkook. "Always a pleasure to have you around, Mister Jeon."
"Please," Jungkook held up his hand, "just call me Jungkook."
That awkward tension again. I grasped Namjoon's hand under the table when Father spoke up, "Oh, and Namjoon?"
"Yes, Father?"
"You broke your smartphone last night, am I correct?" Everyone seemed to inhale sharply at the same time. Namjoon returned my grasp, squeezing my fingers tight until his knuckles turned white. "Yes." He gritted.
Father dug a hand into his white lab coat and produced the latest model of smartphone in the city. He slid it to the front of Namjoon's face and he looked up at him. And that is when I realised, all of them are staring at my father.
"Better be careful next time, okay?" He gave us smiles, the same smile from last night before taking a loaf of bread and disappearing back into the basement.
Yoongi banged his fists on the counter, a vein popping on his temple. "They knew. They fucking knew about it..."
"Namjoon..." Seokjin grasped the said boy's shoulder, but Namjoon is still frozen. His eyes were staring at the phone, emotions roiling in his dark brown orbs.
He opened the island's drawer and sweeping the phone inside, closed it with a loud bang. Everyone jumped at the sudden burst. It was deadly silent in the kitchen after that.
"We need to out smart them before they do. To us."
