It was Friday night again.
"How was your day?" David asked and Gabriel shrugged, feeling a bit tired and sluggish.
"Meetings, a lot of them," he grumbled and ambled into the kitchen to look at whatever David was cooking. There were veggies - a lot of them - and he wrinkled his nose like a petulant child. He preferred those days when one of them stopped for some takeout on the way home but on the other hand he also knew that he wasn't in his twenties anymore and everything he put into his body actually showed immediately. The perks of growing older.
David lightly patted his ass. "Go take a shower, it's nearly eight o'clock."
"Yes, mum," Gabriel mocked and tried to avoid the swat aimed at his ass, yelping when he failed and David grinned smugly.
Warmth bloomed in his chest as he accusingly pointed at David. "You'll get that one back."
"I can't wait, baby."
Gabriel rolled his eyes fondly and closed the bathroom door.
It had been a long day and it felt like now was the first time in an eternity to slow down and take a deep breath. He tilted his head back, warm water drenching his hair. His neck felt tight and coiled like a snake ready to strike. Maybe David would take pity on him and massage his sore muscles later on which probably wasn't that unlikely because his weird obsession with worshipping Gabriel's body still hadn't lessened. Gabriel had learned not to complain by now.
He finished his shower quickly and slipped on jeans and a comfy shirt. Although they had guests tonight he couldn't be bothered with fancy clothes and doubted that they would show up in suits.
"Smells good," he complimented as he strolled into the kitchen, hair still damp and most likely a mess. He rested his chin on David's shoulder to watch him season the Brussels sprouts and David softly kissed his temple.
"Gotta impress your friends," he said and shrugged. Gabriel scoffed and nuzzled his neck, inhaling his scent like a junkie.
"It's not like you're meeting my parents and asking for my hand."
David paused shortly to glance at Gabriel with his eyebrows raised. "I doubt that would go down well."
Gabriel grimaced. "Right."
His father hadn't tried anything yet and it made him feel on edge because there was no way the old man would accept defeat just like that. His mother was still in Brighton and had called once to tell him that she had arrived there safely and where to reach her. At the moment he didn't see any need to talk to her though. Perhaps somewhere a few months or years from now they would be able to build a relationship Gabriel had yearned to have all through his childhood and eventually had discarded as a stupid fantasy.
"So impressing your friends is even more important," David pointed out and Gabriel straightened up to step in front of him.
"Are you kidding?"
This time it was David who grimaced even though it could've been a weird smile as well. "A bit?"
Gabriel felt that weird flutter in his stomach and gently cupped David's cheek. "No need to be nervous or anything, okay?"
"I'm not nervous," David grumbled, light redness tinting his face. It was one of the most adorable things Gabriel had ever seen.
"Why is it that you blush when you have to admit that you're nervous but you don't when you're elbow deep in a box of sex toys?"
"Well, I know that the sex toys will be fun later on," David replied with a shrug and washed his hands at the sink.
"True," Gabriel agreed and leaned against the counter.
