"Give me them!"

"No. Be strong, dammit!"

McKenzie bared her pearly white teeth. "It's only fair, Alexa. Hand them over."

I hugged the bag of orange cheesy puffs closer to my chest. "Absolutely not. It's not even been an hour since I graciously let you back into our house, and you're already trying to steal my snacks? No. Besides, McKenzie, we told ourselves no snacks until after homecoming."

"Whatever," she huffed. "My dress has give room on purpose."

"You had it altered?" I exclaimed. "And in the stomach? Of all places, get it in the breasts so it squeezes what you have upwards."

"I don't have much so there's no point to that," she dismissed.

After seeing my hold on the bag was about to squeeze the crunchiness out of the snacks, McKenzie backed out of her attack stance and settled down on the bed. I eyed her suspiciously, because it was highly unusual for her to give up like that, but then again, maybe she was trying to be kiss up to me.

I liked this.

I set the bag of puffs on my dresser and went back to my previous action of alternating between brushing and straightening my hair.

"When are we leaving?" McKenzie whined, not even a second after I picked up my brush.

I sighed. "Have a little patience? If we are going to a restaurant then I want to look a little more presentable than a messy bun with my Gucci dress."

"Sometimes that goes together," Maddie hummed from her spot on my bed, leisurely flicking through a magazine.

I snorted and kept brushing. "Yeah if I was a size zero model with impossibly high cheekbones."

"That's exactly what you are," Maddie lamented.

"Get over yourself."

The magazine snapped shut. "Whatever, Alexa. Believe what you want then, but hurry up and brush your hair. We have reservations at seven."

I rolled my eyes. "I can't believe you chose the most expensive Italian restaurant in downtown to sit and chat. And on a Monday night. That's just weird."

"Are you complaining? We're the ones paying."

I set my brush down on the table, and looked over at them with a suddenly very wide smile. "Of course not, besties!"

Maddie glared. "That's what I thought."

I got out of my seat to give myself one final look. Hair looked straight, and glossy if the light caught it in the right way. My romper was as cute as it was going to get. And my make up was adequate.

"Alright lets go," I smiled at them.

"Are you driving?"

"No."

Maddie grinned. "Is Seth driving?" She asked hopefully.

I gave them a look. "This is your idea, your plan, so you are the one driving." I laughed to myself on my way out the door, with them in tow. "Sorry, but Seth has a girlfriend, Maddie. Nice try, though."

A part of me did kind of wish that Seth was here because when we arrived the building was teeming with dorky teenagers there to try and pick up girls quickly before homecoming. Or they were on dates desperate to get the girls to say yes. Oh, if Seth was here he would protect us from all of the stares and the awkward 'flirtatious' smiles.
