"Hi," Peter waved shyly.
Jacob smiled up at him and pulled a chair out for the slightly smaller boy. His eyes seemed to sparkle as he looked at Peter. "You look so adorable."
"I'm 15, I'm not adorable," Peter insisted as he sat down. "In fact, I'm almost 16."
"Age doesn't change that. You're adorable. That's a good thing."
Peter's cheeks turned pink and he looked down at his hands that were currently fidgeting. "So, what do you normally do on dates?"
"You were lying when you said you'd been on a date before, weren't you?"
"No, but the only date I've ever been on was to a dance and I left early. Really early."
"Why?"
"I, uh, there was a family issue," he lied, but Jacob saw right through it.
"I know that's not the truth." Peter's face paled. "But, I understand if you don't want to tell me yet. My goal is for us to get close enough that you'll trust me with things like that. Don't worry, I'm not one of those guys who is only going on a date with you for a couple extra bucks from one of my friends. I actually like you."
"I actually like you too, but honestly, I don't know what to do on dates."
"Usually, you order food and eat it slowly so that you can talk with the other person a lot. But you also wanna make sure your breath is nice afterward in case you want to kiss that person," he said smiling. "Have you kissed anyone before?"
"N-No," Peter mumbled.
"What?"
"No, I haven't."
"That's fine. You shouldn't waste your first kiss. You should save it until you know you're ready."
"At this rate, I don't think I'll ever kiss anyone," he grumbled and finally looked up at Jacob. "When did you have your first kiss?"
"Three years ago, I was thirteen and had a girlfriend. I kissed her and realised I was gay. I broke up with her right after and she slapped me." Peter started giggling. "I'm not kidding. I wish I was. There was a red handprint plastered on my face for the next hour. I've always held a grudge against her for that, but it was really my fault. I did dump her on her birthday."
Peter was in a fit of laughter and couldn't even form words when the barista, Sarah, walked over.
"Sorry for the wait, what can I get you guys today?"
Once Peter had stopped laughing, he ordered a slice of apple pie, as did Jacob.
"You like apple pie, too?" Jacob asked.
Peter nodded and felt his phone vibrate in his back pocket. Tony Stark had texted him.
mr. stark
I need your help, kid.peter
I'm kind of on a date right now!mr. stark
Trust me, this is more important.Peter sighed and put his phone away. "Jake, I'm so, so, so sorry, but I have to go. And I can't really explain right now, but I'd love to go on another date with you to make up for this," he said grabbing his backpack and standing up. "I promise I'm not bailing. I WILL make up for it."
"Peter," Jacob's sadness was written all over his face. "I believe you. Just text me and let me know."
"God, I feel awful. I'm so sorry and you're just so understanding. I'm an idiot."
