They'd pounced. They'd made the first move.
"Run!" Summer screamed, rocketing towards the door. I followed her lead after side-stepping Tazmin's attack, by which point Summer had gotten the door open. Then I launched myself through the doorway, but soon felt my legs being yanked out from underneath me. I groaned as my face collided with the freezing, tiled floor. My head was pounding.
"You bastard!" Saffron yelled at me. Why is she yelling at me? I thought, before realising that my phone had fallen out of my pocket. "Hey, Alex! Guess what? We're coming for you next!" she spat, before kicking my phone into the wall. I couldn't think straight: my head hurt like hell. Wobbling to my feet, I was completely unprepared for the stinging pain that came from my arm a few seconds later, for Saffron had stabbed me in my shoulder.
I shook my head in an attempt to stop my blurry vision as I ran across the room. I felt dizzy. Then I heard Summer squeal from the door. I blinked, then again. Eventually my sight had returned; Summer was lying on the floor, blood pouring from her leg. I ran. Saffron was close behind me, but I ignored it. I crashed into Tazmin, knocking her sideways onto the floor and the knife from her hand. I relished her pain: that was payback for hurting my friend. Summer had gotten to her feet, limping a bit.
"Christmas!" she cried, a bit too late, as Saffron had already rammed her elbow firmly into my stomach. I gasped for breath as I fell backwards into the wall. "No!" She hopped over and slapped Saffron, then went to slap her again when Saffron pulled out the knife. Waving it at Summer, Saffron advanced, nearer and nearer as Summer was forced to retreat.
I leaned against the wall, pushing myself to my feet. As I began stumbling across towards the others, suddenly a heeled boot came out of nowhere and kicked me in the side. I cried out in pain, doubling over, as Tazmin ran at me again. She swiftly lifted her leg before bringing it down-heel first-on top of my spine. I fell to the floor. Taking two big handfuls of my hair, she yanked me up and smashed my head into the corner of the wall. Blood was now dripping down my forehead and into my eyes. Everything seemed red.
Next she threw me towards the opposite wall, which I whacked into, bloody face first. She came to kick me again, but I reacted quickly. I grabbed her boot, twisting it as I shoved her back. She staggered into the wall and I stamped onto her foot as hard as I could. It had no effect. I read her moves as she raised her leg around the side, aiming for either her foot to my jaw or her knee to my chin. Instead of facing those consequences, I ducked, dropping to the floor and twisting round, my leg outstretched. It collided with the side of her shin, and I hooked my foot round putting pressure on it. She yelped as she lost her balance and fell; I took the opportunity to head towards Summer.
Summer had got some sort of hold of Saffron's wrists, but was clearly struggling to keep control. I grabbed one of the studded football boots from underneath one of the benches and brought it crashing down on her head with all my might. Streaks of a deep crimson formed amidst her mass of thick blond hair, and by my calculation, would definitely stain for a long while.
"Bitch!" she cried, clutching her head and releasing Summer. Then she turned on me and barged into me, kneeing me in the abdomen, winding me and knocking me flying onto the floor. She leapt on top of me, pinning down my legs with her own and my arms with her hands. "Tazmin! Get your knife!" I have to do something!
I desperately tried rolling from side to side, but I was trapped. Apparently, Summer had reached the same predicament as my and she snatched at the nearest PE bag, which she twirled above her head to pick up momentum before bringing it lower and swinging it directly into Saffron's cheek. She weakened her grip the slightest bit before regaining her advantage as Tazmin began attacking Summer.
I wriggled below Saffron, trying to find an escape route, but she was overwhelmingly strong. How can I get out? I cried before banging my head into hers, which was only a few inches above mine. I could feel my skull cracking on impact, but luckily hers must've felt the same way, since her locked grip was reduced to nothing. In a flash, I brought my knees up to my chest and kicked out with both my legs at her ribcage. She flew backwards, arms flailing. Then, splat! straight on her back. I winced. She rolled over onto her side, hugging her tummy, looking like she wasn't going anywhere soon.
I seized this opportunity; Tazmin had Summer pinned up against the wall. With both hands firmly clamped on her shoulders, I jerked her back, but all it did was make her take a step back. She released Summer and dropped to the floor. At first I was confused, until I noticed she was going for the knife. But by then it was too late. She turned, and stabbed Summer in the side, who toppled over like Saffron had.
Then she turned on me. I dodged her attacks, edging further away from the exit and back into the toilets. That was when I made my mistake. I stood on my phone, which slid and I slipped over, landing on my back. Tazmin then jumped down, pinned me down and raised her knife:it was aimed for my neck. My hands shot to her wrist, trying to strangle the knife from them. I was tired and weak; Tazmin was determined. Slowly, the blade crept closer and closer to my throat. I couldn't hold her.
Then I heard the door open. I couldn't see who it was, since Tazmin was blocking my view. Next thing I know, I was relieved of the pressure from Tazmin's strength as she fell sideways, off of me. I sat up, clamping my hand over my shoulder in an attempt to stop the bleeding. Tazmin was laying still-breathing-but still. Someone came over and tapped me on the other shoulder.
"You okay?" they asked.
It was Ivy.
