Prologue: The Past and Future

There was some kind of internal flare that ripped through you when your eyes finally snapped open to stare upwards at an endless, eternal sky. Hundreds of beautiful stars filled your vision as you stared at the cosmos before you. The feeling was surreal. "Beautiful, isn't it?" a soft voice pulled you from your wonderful daze. You shifted heavily from your back, pushing yourself up into a sitting position. The void before you engulfed your entire being; you seeming to float amongst an abyss of nothingness. You turned to the voice.

"Something I've learned about the stretch of space is its ever stretching expanse of nothing," a tall woman sat just beside you, staring out at the nothingness. She was thin with a fair complexion, but there was one thing that set an air of familiarity about her. It was her soft green eyes. "Sometimes I wonder if I'll ever see anything else, though." You shifted your gaze away from her.

"Where are we?" your voice was weaker then you remembered. She let out a sad chuckle then shifted on her heels to stand. "I don't understand. What happened?"

"I wish I had those answers," she admitted, holding a hand out to you to help you to your feet. "Right now we're staring at a space beyond time and beyond our physical forms. Somewhere out of reach." You slowly turned to look at her again. "I ended up here as a sacrifice to preserve my sons. Back home, I watched as my physical body slowly faded away from the world and the ache in my family's eyes."

You watched this woman for a second. Her golden blonde hair and soft features reminded you of someone you couldn't quite place. She turned to look at you again, a smile on her lips. "When you go back, I need you to be strong in the midst of adversity. My darling sons will need you to be strong. Everything will be chaotic and seem lost but have faith in them. Everything will work out. I know it will."
