{A/N: This is my first story here. I apologize sincerely for any mistakes of grammar or spelling. I'm waiting anxiously to see the feedback!!!}
Chapter 1: Escape by Fire
She stared at the ceiling, her sharp eyes taking in every speck of dust that couldn't be seen to the naked human eye.
It was dark. She could tell that she was alone, for the moment. Her arms strained against the bindings that held her to the chair. She had been here, at this place, in the dark(not IN the dark literally, but you get it) for more than fifteen years. She had stopped counting after the fifteen year mark, but her brain unconsciously kept count.
She didn't remember the time that had come before this, maybe because there wasn't one. No one cared about her, there was no one to say, "Where have you been? We've been searching EVERYWHERE for you!" Nope, no one would ever say that, because she was no one.
There was a sudden burst of bright light as a door slid open. It was harsh to her eyes that had become accustomed to the darkness. The light disappeared, but a dimmer light had begun to glow. Slowly her eyes adjusted to the brightness.
"Awake?" a monotone voice called out to her. She didn't reply. "And how're you feeling?" It seemed to her that the voice wanted an answer.
"Ehh, so-so," she told it. Her voice was strong and unwavering even in the dark. The light had finally become bright enough that she could see the speaker. A male--about thirty or so--with neatly combed coal black hair, a beard, freshly cleaned lab coat, and a clipboard. She knew the lab coat was freshly cleaned because she smelled crisp smell of laundry detergent.
"I see," he replied vaguely, scribbling furiously on the clipboard. She watched as he wrote. Her sharp gray eyes processed the movement of the pen on paper figured out what he was writing.
[Subject seems to have overcome the experiment.]
The experiment, one out of countless many. She had been injected with dose that had been filled with clear liquid. She had watched as the needle pierced the skin on her arm. The liquid was forcefully pushed into her. She remembered screaming in agony as the liquid started to burn her from. They had tied her down into the chair so she couldn't move. They had left her to scream in darkness.
The pain had subsided an hour after, replaced by a longing to destroy something. To set it aflame. Why aflame? Because that's what Experiment: Black Fire was. Because she that's what she was.
From the time she realized that she had no parents to now when she was seventeen. The people here weren't human, they were monsters who kill humans just to see what would happen. She was a person, was she not? Not a normal human, but a person nonetheless. She deserved the freedom, the right to go to school and have fun, did she not? She wished for a time when she could. She wished every person who had caused her both physical and emotional pain, dead. She was robbed of the right to even die.
Though she had never been given a real name, she knew what people called her. "The fire girl," or "Flames," or "Ashes." The last one fit, mainly because her fire was so powerful that whatever it touched, it literally "burned to ashes."
She knew what came next--the testing. She was let out of her bindings and was led by the man to another room. There was a lot of extra water on supply, just so if her fire got out of control. Though it could never fully take out the fire, it would reduce it enough so that she could take it out herself. There were many things here--logs, chairs, televisions, and stuff that wouldn't normally burn by a normal fire.
But her fire wasn't normal, not at all. Normal fire had smoke. Hers didn't. Normal fire was a warming red-orange-yellow color. Like the trees in autumn outside the building where she lived.
