Chapter 4: A Regular Teen, or so it Seems

Ashlee knew that burning anything in public would lead to various sticky situations. So she decided to go somewhere more private. She ran as fast as she could, blood pounding in her head. She memorized the direction she had come from so she could easily make the way back.

She stopped when she found a secluded shed. She entered it with her heart pounding loudly. She removed her gloves and stretched her palms out. She let the fire rush.

Ashlee exited the shed. She looked back sadly at the pile of ashes. Her powers weren't useful for much except destruction. She raced back to the party and found a displeased Cecelia and Rachel waiting for her.

"Where have you been?" demanded Cecelia.

"I went to get some fresh air," Ashlee said brightly. Now that she wasn't suppressed by her fire, she was feeling a lot happier. Her mood was also brighter.

"Oh, the party just ended anyway," Rachel shrugged. She looked around as if she was looking for someone. "Is Damiel picking us up?" she asked eagerly.

"He should be here soon," Cecelia replied.

"I swear, there is nothing hotter than Damiel in action!" Rachel squealed. She turned to Ashlee. "I bet you've never seen it before."

Ashlee shook her head in reply. She could honestly say that she hadn't.

"He is hot," Cecelia admitted. "But not as hot as Jake!"

"Whatever." They launched into a full discussion about the subject.

"Do you need a ride?" Jake walked up to Cecelia and hooked an arm around hers. She responded with a shake of her head.

"Damiel's going to pick us up."

"That punk?"He looked angry. Ah, jealousy, the most dangerous of human emotions. "He's dangerous, I won't let you go anywhere with him."

"If I trust him, then YOU should trust him, too." She looked icily at him.

"Well," Rachel said, breaking the awkward silence. "There he comes now, we'll see you tomorrow!" She yanked the fuming Cecelia towards the car.

"Hey, guys," greeted Damiel with a smile.

"Damiel!" Rachel squealed.

"Rachel," he replied with the same smile though Ashlee thought that she saw a hint of a smirk on his lips.

"I'll see you later," Cecelia told Jake, her words edged with ice.

"Someone's receiving the cold shoulder," whistled Damiel. He looked especially stunning tonight. Even to Ashlee who had never been exposed to guys before, she thought that if such a thing as male beauty existed, it was called "Damiel Jorge."

"You can just fuck off," Jake replied with a snarl. Cecelia looked on the verge of exploding. For the safety of both Cecelia and Jake, Ashlee put a firm restraining hand on her shoulder.

"Whatever," Damiel said, driving off quickly. Ashlee wondered how someone could be so bi-polar, or he was especially good at his job.

"So, are you living here as well?" Rachel asked Ashlee, once again breaking the uncomfortable silence. Ashlee was aware of the question but she didn't know how to answer. Damiel saved her.

"She's the daughter of a friend of my father's, and as a personal request, she's staying at Cecelia's house for now." He looked nonchalant about the whole situation.
