That night, I couldn't sleep. All that I could think of was what would happen at school the next day. I tossed and turned in bed, my body and heart aching intensely. I glanced at my alarm clock. It was 5 a.m. I sighed and sat up, stretching my limbs.
My neck cracked as I tried to get rid of the stiffness that hindered my moves. I stood up and walked towards the bathroom.
As I looked up at my reflection, I couldn't help but cringe. My eyes were red and dark circles were right under them. My skin was paler than usual. All over, I looked like a ghost.
I took a long, hot shower, trying to get rid of the exhaustion which was weighing heavily on me. I ran a hairbrush through my untamed hair, quickly putting it up in a high ponytail.
I dressed in a pink shirt, black jeans and sneakers and was about to apply some make up to my face when I heard a loud honking spund from outside. I walked to the window to see what was happening when I saw Cameron leaning casually on his black Mercedes. When he saw me, he took out his phone and quickly typed something. He then looked at me expectantly as my phone rang.
"You better be making pancakes." He wrote. I rolled my eyes at him.
"Level 3 suite 35." I texted him as I went to the kitchen. I took ingredients and started making the pancake batter when the doorbell rang repeatedly.
I went to open the door and there stood Cameron, a sheepish smile on his face.
"I want food. " he declared.
"Shut up and go help Noah to get ready. Second room on the left." he did a mock salute and got off. He came back fifteen minutes later, followed by my brother.
"Pancakes!!!!" Noah yelled as he flung himself my arms. I laughed and kissed him on the cheek, placing him on a seat infront of his breakfast.
Cameron sat next to Noah and looked at him inquisitively as my brother took a fork and knife.
"What are you doing? " Cameron asked him with an incredulous look.
"Eating? " Noah replied
Cameron facepalmed."You got it all wrong, " he told him. "That's how we eat them." and he started gobbling up the pancakes with his bare hands, stuffing his face with the food. Noah mimicked him and they ate like wild animals while I looked at them, horrified.
When Cameron finished his plate, he looked at my untouched one.
"Are you gonna eat them? " he asked me. I shook my head, dumbfounded, and handed him the food. I'm never ever eating pancakes again.
Cameron dropped Noah at school and got serious when we were again alone.
"I'm sorry, Rynn. " he told me. I turned to look at him.
"It's not your fault, Cameron. " I replied, shaking my head.
"It is. I should have tried harder to stop him. We wouldn't be in this situation if I had. "
"You can't take the blame. I should have told him. He's right. Don't be mad at him. You're his best friend. "
He shook his head, his jaw set tight in anger.
"The Ryder I thought knew would've never done that."
I sighed as we parked in the school lot. He gave me a weak smile as he opened the door for me. When I got in the corridor with Cameron, I could see Ryder and Parker talking in a corner.
Ryder noticed us and grabbed Cameron's arm as we passed them.
"Cameron... " he began. But he shook his head, looking at him coldly before yanking his arm away from him.
"I'm ashamed of ever having been your friend, Ryder. You disgust me." Ryder turned to face me, but I avoided his gaze, riveted on Cameron.
"Don't, Cameron. It's between me and him. You can't let that get between the two of you, " I told him. His face seemed to relax a little. Suddenly, the bell rang loudly, breaking the glass lining which seemed to have been enclosing us from the real world.
I shot Cameron a quick smile and grabbed my things from my locker before going off to my first class.
I sat beside Kiara, and she hugged me, her breathing heavy, as if she was about about to cry.
"Screw Ryder and his PMS. You're still my bff, right? " she asked, giving me a glassy-eyed look.
I resisted the urge to bust into tears at the display of friendship. "Of course, duh. " and we high-fived each other as we burst out laughing.
Screw Ryder and his PMS.
