-Eddies POV-
Laying in bed, I try to devise a master plan to get back to Richie. I can't stand not being there. It's driving me fucking insane.
"I guess I could just sneak out the window now and hop on a bus..."
"I could grab the keys and take moms car while she's not looking..."
"Maybe I could get a plane ticket..."
There was a fault to each of those plans though. I don't have the money, or my mom would catch me in the act. Come to think of it, even if I was successful in my escape, it's too obvious to go back to Derry. She'd find me there. This is absolutely hopeless. So I get up, turn my lamp on and sit at my desk, staring at my homework list and the schools 'welcome packet' that's sat on my desk for the past 7 months. Then it hit me. "What if I join the band team?" This could be foolproof. I could join and go to the competition near Derry with them.
~
The next day at school I find Ms. Flagert, the head of the band team.
"Excuse me, Ms. Flagert I was wondering if I could join the band team." She sort of looked at me like she was trying to figure out who I am. "Oh I'm Eddie by the way. Eddie Kaspbrak. I'm new."
"Nice to meet you Eddie! Unfortunately we don't really have space for new members right now. Maybe next year though!"
"Dammit" I say under my breath "Uh, I mean, sure. It's fine." I slowly walk out of the door trying to come up with what to do now. My plan was trashed. Or was it...?
I could lie; tell my mom that I joined the team and that we're going to a competition in New Hampshire for 3 days. Still, getting money to pay for a bus ticket is an issue. Why does this have to be so fucking difficult? Plus, I don't even know how much money I need to get a bus ticket!
~
A few days have passed and I finally worked out every single tiny detail of my plan. I had told my mother about "going to New Hampshire with the team" and figured out how much money I needed, only about $50, and decided that I could probably even ask mom for it.
"Hey mommy," I needed to seem as genuine as possible.
"Yes, Eddie dear?"
"Could I maybe please have some money for my trip. With the band. To New Hampshire." flashing a small grin at the end. I was speaking way too fast, she might get suspicious.
"Oh anything for you! How about $70? For food and souvenirs and whatnot."
Score! She totally bought it.
"Thank you so much mommy!" I ran over and kissed her cheek.
~
It's Friday morning, all the band kids are loading onto busses to leave for their trip while I'm heading through town to the bus station. I walk up to the counter and purchase a ticket to Derry, Maine. In no more than 15 minutes I'm in my seat, ready to leave.
"Next stop, Derry!"
