The Other Sleigh Beggy [Ancient Magus Bride]

Chapter Eleven

Ever since Leo and I made a contract, he has became my familiar. Like Chise and Ruth. We swore to protect each other with my our lives. He has suffered through so much and it makes me upset as his past replays in the back of my mind. It's almost similar to mine. Losing my parents and trying to protect others from harm... 

Leo doesn't have a human form like Ruth does and he seems to like hunting a lot. He's hardly near me but he comes around if something bad happens. It's odd. 

Chise and I were in the garden as Chise taught me about the different creatures that were roaming about. Like the wooly sheep and faeries like Ariel. "Chise... Can I ask you something?" I questions as I stared down at the book of creatures that she had given me to review. 

"Sure." She smiles at me. 

"What was like for you when Elias bought you? Why did he buy you? And could it be the same reason for me? I know that Elias told me that he bought for an apprentice, but I still don't understand." Chise puts a finger under her chin as she looks up at the sky, trying to find the answers to my questions. Then she tells me, 

"At first, I was concerned about it but then I realized that he wanted me to be his apprentice, also his bride." Bride!? Is that even possible!? "Then later on, he told me that he's going to keep me around to see if I die or not. Us sleigh beggies have a short life span because of the magic we absorb. If we absorb too much, we will die." 

"I know that. I learned it on my own while I was growing up. But... What use am I here if he has you? Aren't you his apprentice too? I see no reason for me to be here. I seem like a weakling because I haven't helped out much and Elias only wants me to sleep because of the lack of energy...I don't see myself helping out at all. I just find myself being weak and worthless..." I frown and look down at my lap. 

"That's not true, Piper." 

"And what if it is?... I don't care if Elias does get rid of me...I have nowhere else to go because I know that I mean nothing to nobody. I'm just dragging them down with me. It's why I do a lot of things on my own-" 

"Because you were afraid that you would be a burden." Chise finishes my sentence and I look up at her with shock. How did she know I was going to say that? "I was just like you at a time. I always did things on my own because I didn't want to burden anyone. But so many people showed me the way that I wasn't alone and that I could ask for help." Chise smiles at me. She's had her experiences here and there and she knows a lot more than I do. But how can I change like her? 

"Chise... I'm sorry. I wasn't thinking straight. Please, forget what I said." I smile at her.

"The world is scary, but you have the power to change what you do. Do not let the past haunt you. My past haunts me a lot but I overcame it with the help of creatures that I have encountered." Chise tells me as she holds my hand, causing me to smile at her.  

Two girls with similar pasts, but completely different from how they see the world. Chise shines in the light and is special others... while I dwell in the darkness and bring nothing but chaos... But I have a lot of people who are willing to help me. 

And I will accept that.
