Thea glanced up, hearing an uproar in the trees beyond her, her eyes wide as she scanned the forest for threats. The birds were strangely quiet today, she should have seen that as a sign not to go out. She did anyway, walking further from her home, Ton DC, and through the familiar forest, she knew too well. She crouched down slowly, readying her blade, expecting a fellow grounder to come sprinting from the trees. Instead, five teenagers emerged, all dressed in non-grounder clothes. She frowned, still hiding in the bushes. They were talking in English, which surprised Thea, no grounder spoke in English anymore. They were taught it, but many chose to keep to their native tongue. The teens continued down a path, talking loudly.

One boy with long brown hair picked a purple flower from its bush, Poison Sumac, it was called. Her closest friend, Lincoln, was always teaching her new medical things, like which plants to use as an antidote and which help heal. Poison Sumac had calming factors if you ate it, and in the night time, it glowed a brilliant bright yellow. A side effect of the radiation war. Not the Thea minded, the forest at night was the prettiest.

A boy with goggles perched atop his head turned to a short boy beside him, "Now that my friend, is game."

The boy laughed. "That my friend is poison sumac,"

Thea smiled at the girl now desperately flicking the flower out of her hair. "What? It is?"

"The flowers aren't poisonous," He plucked another from the bush and expected it. "They're Medicinal, calming actually." He placed the flower in his mouth, munching down on the tasteless bulb.

They continued walking, still talking. Thea hid in the trees, she didn't want to be seen by the teens, and the thick shrubbery gave her the perfect hiding.

"His family grows all the pharmaceuticals on The Ark." Goggles explained to the girl. Smiling at her as they continued their trek. Thea wondered where they were going. And where they came from. They seemed to just appear and get on with it. Maybe they were from Polis, But she doubted it, Her friend was Heda in Polis, and she didn't dress so strangely.

"Hey, guys, would you try to keep up?" The blonde who had been leading in front of the group called back. Thea wondered what all these people's names were. It was getting confusing just calling them goggles and long hair boy.

"Come on, Clarke. How do you block all this out?" Clarke. She hadn't met any 'Clarkes before.

"Well, it's simple. I wonder, 'why haven't we seen any animals?' Maybe it's because there are none. Maybe we've already been exposed to enough radiation to kill us. Sure is pretty, though. Come on."
