"Zayn, you can't live like this. It's not healthy."

Niall stepped lightly around the dark bedroom over the mess of clothes and underwear sprawled on the floor. The curtains were drawn closed, blocking out any sunlight. Zayn lay under the bed sheets, refusing to get up.

"Seriously mate, you can't be like this forever..." Niall said as he sat down on the end of the bed.

It had been 4 months now since the accident. Since the day Zayn had declared his love for Liam and sealed it. Since the day his whole world fell apart in a split second...

He no longer had any energy. He didn't want to do anything. He saw no point in living anymore. His best friend, his true love, his saviour... gone.

"We're all worried about you Zayn." Niall whispered, rubbing his hands on his knees. Harry, Louis and Niall had agreed to go check on Zayn since there'd been no contact with him since the wedding day. They collectively decided it best for only one of them to go as to not overwhelm him, and Niall was their choice.

Zayn stayed silent. He found no effort to speak, to eat, to drink; only now and then would he move from the bed to use the bathroom, smoke a cigarette or get some food or drink before he collapsed, but it was never much. He'd lost so much weight since... that day, and was becoming extremely ill.

A man was sentenced to 5 years in prison for reckless driving and the cause of a death, but that seemed far too short for the pain that Zayn had been caused and was going to eat at him for the rest of his life. If Zayn ever came across the man that has killed his one true love, he wasn't going to be held responsible for his actions.

The funeral had been bleak. Zayn had to be talked into going, because quite honestly he didn't have it in him to say goodbye to the one person who knew how to love him right. With much persuasion from his band mates, and several angry phone calls from his mother until she came over, he managed to make it. Despite the fact he threw up before and after the service, he made it through. Not even a fake smile could make it onto his face though. Since then he'd been cooped up, refusing to interact with the world. He didn't see any point. l

"Look, if you can't even speak to your best friend, then I don't know what I'm supposed to do Zayn." Niall moaned, becoming restless. Niall usually had good patience but Zayn was pushing his limit.

"What's the point..." is all Zayn said. Those were his thoughts, what else did Niall want?

"What's the point? The point is Zayn that we all lost a best friend. Fuck, am I ever gonna be over this... but the difference is that I got up and got on with my life instead of trapping myself in my bedroom and shutting everyone out!" Niall said, raising his voice.

"But you didn't love him Niall! Not the way I did! I finally found the one true person I love and I fucking lose him! Do you have any idea how that feels?" Zayn shouted back, throwing the bed covers off, "I don't want you here Niall, if I wanted to speak to you I would've called you. Now if you could kindly leave..." Zayn said, disappearing back under the bed covers.

"Fine. Be that way." Niall said as he rose from the bed, "I'm just going to leave this here, okay?" he said, placing a photo down on the bed. Zayn waited for the slam of a front door and the sound of a car engine pulling away before pushing back the covers and looking at the photo placed on the end of the bed.

It was Liam and Zayn outside the church, bright smiles and smartly dressed. Liam's eyes were crinkled, his teeth flashing, the happiest he'd ever been. Zayn matched perfectly, his emotions exactly the same.

Zayn couldn't control the tears falling down his face as he stared at the photo, drops falling down onto it. If only he could go back to that moment. That moment of complete euphoria. If only they'd left the church a little earlier and avoided the crash. If only it had been Zayn that had died. If only...

Zayn never felt like he'd be able to experience that pure bliss again. He didn't believe he'd ever be able to feel true happiness ever again. His life no longer had meaning or purpose, and he wished with all his might that if only it had been him buried 6 feet under, because honestly that's how he felt right now...
