I woke up, sleepy and hurting all over.

There was the sound of pounding water in my ears. Someone was working behind me.

I sat up fast. Big mistake. My head pounded and ached. I yelped.

"Shh..." A reassuring hand led me back to the ground.

"It's alright."

Dawn.

Her dad.

The belt.

It all came rushing back.

"Are you alright? What happened? Where's your father?"

"Shh, shh... It's alright. He's gone. We're safe." She planted a soft kiss on my lips.

She tasted so good.

"You're alright," I whispered.

She laughed. "Of course I am. Are you?"

"Yes, yes I'm fine."

I wasn't.

She continued to nurse my wounds.

And I fell asleep.

When I woke up, she was crying, a bit away from me.

I walked over to her, my wounds healing, the pain gone.

I held her.

She held me.

She was so hurt, and it killed me to see her this way.

I planted a kiss on her cheek.

Then her forehead.

Her nose.

Her lips.

I began kissing a line pattern- from her cheek down her jawline, around her ear, beside her hairline, down the bridge of her nose, and to her lips.

She moved so she faced towards me. She kissed me quickly, hungrily, as if she couldn't get enough of me.

I knew the feeling.

She could have died. He could have killed her. If I hadn't been there... I was just so thankful. That she was here, alive, well. I was indulged in her, her scent, her look, her lips. I was her and she was me.

We were infinite.

Some of you might be wondering what happened after that. It's my duty to tell you that we did NOT have an affair, and I won't go in to any more details of that matter.

She drove me back to my house, and my parents weren't angry; just glad to see I was alive and well.

She stayed the night at my house.

And I think we can all guess what happened there.

But it's none of your business, now is it? This is my story, after all. My life.

But no details there, either.

However, I am happy to say that years passed, and besides that one horrific event, we had a peaceful, healthy relationship.

But don't think this is the end of the story.

No.

Rather, why don't you think of it as a beginning?

A beginning to the life we were both about to lead.
