7 years after we had started dating, Matt took me on a date.
"Where are we going?" I inquired, over and over and over again.
"You'll see," was the reply, accompanied by a sly smirk and glimmer in his beautiful eyes.
Finally, the car stopped. He walked to my door and opened it for me. I hopped out, and...
Oh, my...
Matt snuck up behind me, grabbed me, picked me up, and carried me to an old playground.
A very familiar playground.
He set me down on a very familiar swing set.
And I began to swing.
I swung higher, and higher, until there was no where else to go. I closed my eyes, relishing in the momentum and drunk love of air.
But my fingers slipped.
And I fell.
I shut my eyes and screamed, free-falling into...
A pair of warm, strong arms.
Matt.
He looked into my eyes, that I've always hated due to their inability to decide on one color to be.
"You are so incredibly beautiful," he whispered.
I blushed.
He kissed me softly on the forehead, then set me down.
"Dawn..." he said, almost instantly in tears.
"What?" I exclaimed, surprised by this sudden surge in emotion.
Then it hit me.
He's breaking up with you.
Why else would he be so upset? And he brought me to the place where our fairy tale romance began to break up with me?! What a jerk!
I looked away.
"What? What is it?" he cried, now his turn to be surprised.
"Nothing. Nothing." I said, swallowing my tears. I'll stay strong.
But no.
Instead of breaking my heart, he bent down.
Onto one knee.
"Dawn... We've been with each other for seven years now. And, even though it only took me a day to figure it out, I know for a fact that I'm crazy in love with you. And... And I know that our beautiful romance isn't complete until I've told you this. And asked you this."
My eyes refilled with tears.
"Will you marry me?"
A tear dripped down my cheek.
"Yes," I whispered. "Yes."
He opened a small box. A beautiful ring was inside.
He slipped it onto my finger.
Mrs. Dawn Chance.
I like the sound of that.
