Chapter 32

Zoe Baker

*Half an hour ago*

"So good to hear you back as yourself again," I mumbled over the phone before inhaling the smoke from the 2nd to the last cigarette I had.

"Why'd you hide this from me?" Mia snapped before a long pause emerged on the awkward atmosphere.

I really didn't know what to say.

I opened left my mouth half agaped looking for the right words to say, but only smoke and a baffled "I--" came out.

I couldn't answer "I was saving it for myself," because I will sound so selfish. Moreover, I couldn't let Mia get her hands on the serum. I mean, I'd rather trust a desperate stranger than the woman who brought that little bitch and destroy my life. It's my only chance to get out of this hell... start my life again and try to forget everything...

"Don't answer that. Just tell me what you asked Ethan to do and tell me where he is. I can't just sit and wait here. I have to help him somehow..." she spoke breaking the chain of thoughts I have in my head.

"Help him? Weren't you the one who called him to save your ass?"

"I don't remem--"

I fake laughed hearing her say the same excuse she uses for 3 straight years.

"Hah... Here we go, again," I muttered in disbelief as I shifted on my sit.

"Zoe, look. I know you don't trust me but I'm trying to help. I don't care if you believe me or not. Just tell me where my husband is."

Then what? You're going to take all the serum for yourself?

"He's looking for the serum... old house," I finally said, staring at the white dot indicating which room Ethan was in.

"Thank yo--"

I hung up before she gets a little more dramatic and try to manipulate me through her "damsel in distress" emotions.

I got no time to listen to her bullshit.

"Did you find it?" I asked as soon as Ethan picked up the phone near him.

I almost fell out of my seat when I saw Ethan's whereabouts on the screen. It was the place ma heavily gaurded.

"I just got done dealing with your mom and her fucking bugs. Wish you could have warned me... " he exhaled, almost chuckling.

I, however, couldn't contain the small laughter as I found his statement quite cheeky as if he was being sarcastic or something... "Sorry 'bout that. What about the serum? Did you find anything?"

"I haven't found any..." he exhaled. "But I did find out what we'll need to make one. A D-series head and an arm. This can't be right..."

"A head? I think I have that around here somewhere..

"Don't we all have?" he mumbled.

I know it was meant to be a joke... And it was. Just a corny one. Still, I couldn't help but chuckle for the man tried. And it's been quite a long while since I laughed or chuckle. He too, let out a small laugh as if he found his own statement ridiculous.

"But seriously, I think I know where I'll find it. I don't know about the arm though. Have you searched the whole house?"

"No, not yet. I still have to check the second floor here."

"Alright, check it out. Meet me at the trailer if you find it," I said hanging up.

I smiled, my heart filled with hope. I never realized Ethan would give me that. He came here so unprepared of what kind of hell he was going to enter and discover. He was so vulnerable and clueless but was truly determined. A true survivor.

I smiled deeply. I couldn't help but think of where and what I'll do to start my life again. Alaska? Yes. It's cold, peaceful and it's called The Last Frontier for a reason. I don't know how I'll get there, but I'll figure it out, eventually. I always do. When I manage to get out of here, I can do anything.

Three years of living hell, and I finally see light at the end of the tunnel. I couldn't help but feel the excitement of seeing the world far different from the place I used to call home. Finally...

I held my chest, letting my eyes smile and well with tears.

Finally...

Heey!!! Only 3 days and we'll be close to RE Village. Can't freaking wait to see how will the story Winters family unfold. And of course more of our favorite big tiddy vampire mommy.. Hehe
